That Kawa looks pretty similar to my bike. I like the dorky cyclops-like front end on those 80's bikes.

Congrats on the bike, Matty!

I've been riding for 18 years and zero accidents. This includes a couple longish periods where my bike was my only vehicle. I wouldn't say I've even had much in the way of close calls. Maybe two times that I felt a little lucky.

Treat every ride like you're playing a video game in which each car will try to kill you at any time. It's fun. You'll be surprised how much more awake and aware you feel after a bike ride.

Don't take any intersection for granted. If you have to brake hard, try to check if anyone is possibly going to rear end you. If there's any doubt about the car behind you stopping in time, slip ahead of the bumper of the car in front of you (either between the lanes or on the shoulder).

Try to minimize the time you're in positions where you have limited options. Put yourself in positions where you have room to maneuver when they try to kill you, because they will try!

Have fun!

Good tips MrX, thanks. I am not the most aggressive car driver to begin with - I tend to distrust other drivers, so I think I already have the right mindset to be riding in the city.

On Sat morning I'm gonna take the bus to the storage place where my bike is (it's remote-ish, in an industrial park near the airport) and I'll do laps around the area until I feel confident enough to bring it home. I rode it around the self-storage maze again last evening and I'm still learning to be very gentle on the throttle and front brake. Clutch and rear brake are no issue.

its just too funny reading some of the stupid shit on other forums....

guy has been out of work for almost 5 years...sends out resumes with bogus work history and supposedly gets 9 interviews in a few weeks...one of which is for doing something with the government...claims they came back and offered him a gig for 85k a year... the government, mind you... no chance at all they would do a very deep background check into all of his past jobs..etc ... i guess if you are going to make up some stupid shit, go big with it

He had a professional career before, something serious, i forget what. He just decided to put some consulting bs on his resume instead of pro-gambler for the last 5 years.
