Weird thing is, this particular lady has dazzled me in the past with her feats of memory.

Like when I was working I would just pop in there once or twice on weekends - and she would remember my order.

Remembering your daily regulars - sure - but weekenders?

So imagine my surprise to now discover she is actually dopey as a crackhouse.

I think what you said back there shows she has potential. Maybe she had a bad morning? I view her as more than an all or nothing employee, willing to go that extra mile and not afraid to fail.

I think you should give her another chance, and if she suggests something you should probably just eat it.

LOL Muddy! My mind thinks the worst a lot, so hoping the police don't knock at your door! Probably not, one in a million chance! Was going to ask if he looked like the criminal type, but just not right, so from your observations did he have a personality that maybe he would do something illegal?

Yes maybe. Well he was a hostile loner type.

It was really weird. We looked so much alike. Subtleties of hair color and wave. Facial hair pattern. Cheekbones and build. And I saw in him this slight awkwardness in certain movements that I recognized from a lifetime of seeing my own reflection. He read stuff that I read.

The physical resemblance was not some abstract thing I was imagining. I got called his name all the time at that job, and I'm sure vice versa. People would come right out and say to me, "Holy crap you guys look the same."

We were very near the same age and as we speak, I would not rule out that my dad was out tomcatting around town while my mom was pregnant with me and lo and behold ----> that guy.

At one point I decided, screw it, I'm going to talk to him and see what's what. So I attempted to strike up a conversation. Did it a couple of times.

He wanted nothing to do with me.

Actually I just told a lie. In the interest of full disclosure, I recall it being mentioned once - decades ago - that I bore some resemblance to the bowler Peter Weber.

I know the type.

I bowled with Pete Weber in a Pro-Am tournament in Mississauga years ago (around 1998) - he was definitely bowling drunk at the tournament - which is why I remember it so well.

He was friendly enough but I think his status as a bowling celebrity may have gone to his head.
