Matty, in the city Autoshare is a good idea. Love the all in pricing.

Auto insurance in Ontario is a sore point with me because I've seen how the government run system works in Sask and Manitoba.

Manitoba issued a rebate to every insured person in the province due to a surplus not too long ago.

MPI ordered to pay back 45% rebate

Manitoba's Public Utilities Board today ordered Manitoba Public Insurance to return $320 million to car owners by May 31.
The decision means MPI ratepayers will see a 45 per cent rebate -- up from 10 per cent originally ordered by the public regulator.

The rebate means if you paid $1,000 on your 2009/10 insurance, you'll see a cheque for $450.

PUB's order comes a day after MPI officials had their knuckles rapped at a special PUB hearing over the recent revelation an external study found the Crown corporation didn't need $250 million it had socked away for injury claims.

Those car insurance #'s for Canada are absurd.

Ontario numbers are absurd, base rate in Manitoba and Sask is approx $1K per year, this does not include safe driver and experience/claim free ratings that will reduce premiums by up to an additional 30-35%.

In Ontario moving from downtown Toronto to the suburbs triggered a rate increase of 100% a few years ago, when I asked why my insurance company told me premiums are based on claims history by postal code and that the area I moved to had a high rate of claims.

Private auto insurance sucks in Canada - many provinces run their own auto insurance programs.

In Ontario getting convicted of driving with an expired vehicle registration (license plate sticker) will cause a minimum 5% rate increase in your insurance premiums if it's your only ticket, if you've been convicted of a previous offense in the last three years you can expect a 10-15% increase.

Like I said many times before, I am a hugh fan of the provincially government run insurance systems in place in BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

At least they don't require a background AND credit check like some companies here do.

There are still literally thousands of jobs going without takers in Estevan Sk, population 10K.

Anyone that wants a job there needs to just show up. You will get the gig.

I'm having second thoughts about this Canada thing.

credit and background checks, overpriced and overhyped. sounds like America

Reno, my comments were tongue in cheek.

Definitely a fact that getting a job in Ontario takes more effort than out west though.

I may end up buying a van(camper)/pickup and living out of it so I can get a job for $16 hr pumping gas in Weyburn.
