Canada, we are basically the same place. Stop trying to distance yourselves so much.

I have squinted at this line and gone over it and the surrounding context about 4 times trying to decide if you are joking. I don't want to give a serious response and then find out you were yanking my chain. I am the worst for falling for chain yanking and I always feel like such a tool.

I think Blitty's point is that his America (left-leaning SoCal and NYC) is culturally pretty damn close to our Canada (left-leaning ON and QC). Which it is.

America is large.

I think you can put any two countries up on the easel and start listing things they have in common. Brotherhood of man and all that. The number of things you find is only limited by how hard you want to try.

Canada and the US have some really obvious superficial things in common. The who/when/how of settlement; primarily english speaking democracies. But if I get beyond that circumstantial stuff, I put the US pretty far down the list of countries I identify with. I am actually surprised at how different the national personalities are considering the proximity and the massive amount of shared media etc.

I would compare Canada more closely to, I dunno, Norway, Sweden, UK, Czech. I think the US is a great country in its way but I'm trying to think of who I would compare it to, national-personality-wise. Having trouble coming up with someone. Definitely not Canada.

You better audition for the Norwegian, Sweden, United Kingdom or Chech version of Jeopardy.

Quit turning your nose up at the US and go hug a moose Muddy!

I'm not sure how you can reduce a whole country to an essence, but I'd sure read what you'd come up with. Possibly cheer, even.

(I don't think of Canada as a distinct entity, let alone the US.)

(Mind you, I've never stepped into the backwards states/provinces. But I've watched a lot of TV. These people are fokken nuts Muddy.)
