Random thoughts

Driving to work this morning I noticed a big pole I had never seen before. I was doing my normal drive through a residential section and I noticed this tall white pole rising above the trees ahead, pointing up at the sky. I could not help but wonder how I never noticed it before. It was quite tall, at least 4 storeys. I could not help but wonder what it's function was. It appeared to be just a big straight pole with no sign of any utility. Just a dumb pole.

Then I noticed some sort of pattern on it. As I got closer and squinted my eyes, I could see it was lettering. This is what it said:

P

L
E

O

H

T

Well I'll be darned, I thought to myself.

I drove through a more heavily treed section - there was practically a canopy over the road - and the pole became obscured. I was quite anxious to see the pole again so naturally I looked for it when I got through those trees and a strange thing happened: I couldn't find the pole. I thought maybe I had become disoriented in the trees but I looked in every direction as I continued to drive and I could not spot the pole.

I never saw it again. It must not have ever been there.

There were leaves that had been raked into piles and a school bus stopped without its flashing lights.
