At the store the other day, Honeycrisp apples were $4.99 per pound. Most of the other types were ~$1.99 per pound.

How do you like them apples?

Honeycrisp apples are good but certainly not worth $5/lb. I'll take a tangelo over and apple any day of the week.

I would pay ten times as much for a honeycrisp as any other apple. Honeycrisp has ruined me for other apples.

I believe honeycrisp apples are a fairly recent development. Engineered at the University of Minnesota or some dam thing.

I could be totally wrong about that and be getting my wires crossed with something else but for now I am going to post rather than fact-check.

I read about this recently, and it turns out they were developed a long time ago, but they didn't believe they were marketable or some such thing. Looking it up....

1960. Holy shit. I could've eaten so many more. What a lost opportunity.

Patented in 1988. Released in 1991.
