This is effed up.

So I start this job last week. I send out a resume Tuesday afternoon and within half an hour they're calling me to see if I can start Wednesday morning, and the recruiter chick makes a special 40 km drive to meet me at a coffee shop by my place that evening to get some paperwork signed and whatnot.

Everything is a big urgent rush.

So I go in and there is barely anything for me to do. The main thing I work on is not even the job at all. It's a couple of special organizational projects. When they're done, they're done - and they're done.

I am supposed to be Shipping/Receiving/Warehousing and there is hardly any S/R going on. It's not that everyone is too busy to train me - there just ain't anything coming in to receive. There were like 6 shipments of inventory come in the 3 days I was there, requiring about 2 hours to process altogether. They said I would be doing some deliveries - but they didn't send me out on a single one.

But okay, I'm ready to hang in there and see where we're going with this. I have mentally committed myself. I can see all kinds of ways to make myself useful within the company. This is going to be the last job of my life.

I get a call late last night that they don't need me this week.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF? Was there a misunderstanding? I thought I was applying for a temp-to-perm full-time job.

Well okay so I double-checked the job posting and I was correct. That's exactly what it says. I know that's exactly what I discussed with chicky-poo at the coffee shop.

I don't know WTF is going on. I'm trying to track down chicky-poo and get some answers.

WTF??

No. Nothing about routine M-F hours. There were no guarantees. I'm not locked into anything. It was just standard agreements with the agency letting me know that I will be paid overtime if I work over 44/hrs in a week and it will be frowned upon if I assault people in the workplace etc.

Alright, well fok these guys. It's in the agency's interest to keep you busy anyway.

Sure. And it's in the company's best interest to get me in there and happy. They're not going to get someone else who can do so many things so well.

If they are just looking for occasional work, I guess I'll do it for now. The hourly pay is good. But between working, I'll be firing off resumes like mad to get what I'm looking for and they'll eventually end up right back starting from scratch.

Actually, if they had some kind of definite proposal for non full-time hours, I would consider it long-term. But I'm not going to be infinitely flexible for them. I'd have to be able to plan some other stuff.

Ugh.

what are they trafficking through shipping and receiving? drugs?

Shipping = stuff like this

Receiving = the ingredients to make stuff like that.

The only thing getting baked there is cakes'n'pastries'n'shit.

You are touching on something there FF. Because some of the time I actually was just kinda standing around with a thumb up my ass, I am wondering if someone thought I am not a good worker.

There was nothing much else I could do sometimes. I am given a job and I finish it and I can't find the bosses - what am I going to do? Start designing and baking a new cake? You can only sweep the floor so many times. I had no instructions on if I should go help someone in a totally different area or what.

I seriously doubt that's the case but until I can get ahold of the agency, my imagination runs amok.
