Hey what is the deal with this show, How to Make it in America?

One of my movie channel appears to be running a marathon of catch-up episodes.

I see Luis Guzman is in it. I like Luis Guzman just fine but I'm not sure he can single-handedly sell me a show.

Anyone familiar with it?

This reminds me...

The Bone Collector - saw this a few weeks back for some reason. Could be the worst movie ever made. Nothing positive to say. Can't even add a point or two for Angelina Jolie's sex appeal because she looks like shit in the movie.

The Girl (2012) - Fundamental difficulty in rating this movie is I don't know how true it is. It makes a difference.

It is the story of the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren that formed with the making of The Birds and continued through Marnie.

Hitchcock is portrayed as a lecherous, pathetic, controlling asswipe. I am certainly not a Hitchcock fanboi - I consider him one of the more overrated characters in film history - but who knows about this? I haven't done any deep research into this but Tippi Hedren has indicated it is accurate. I don't have any particular reason to doubt it.

Toby Jones is very good as Alfred Hitchcock. Great acting and major cudos should also go to the make-up and prosthetics people. But just as his Truman Capote was overshadowed by Philip Seymour Hoffman's a few years back, his Hitchcock is overshadowed by Anthony Hopkin's. Not on merit but on hype. Based on the clips I have seen, Jones is a way more convincing Hitchcock than Hopkins.

Anyway, even if everything in this movie is 100% true, it is not that compelling except perhaps to those with a strong taste for scandal/gossip and don't mind if it is a bit stale. For someone like me who is not in that group and is almost incapable of being surprised . . . mmm, it's not badly done . . . a bit interesting . . .

Django Unchained - DiCaprio is brilliant & Christoph Waltz plays pretty much the same character he had in Inglourious Basterds, minus a few levels of scariness. Jamie Foxx makes a decent gunslinging badass.

Uneven, too long, preposterous and wildly entertaining.

I've got so much stuff taped right now. Various channels have been running marathons of various shows. Something they do around the change of the year for some reason I guess. :dunno:

Anyway they do that and I've taped a shitload of TV episodes. And even then there are a bunch more that I probably would have gone for but didn't for the sole reason that I already have SO MUCH. It seems like ENOUGH.

Seems like there a bunch of movies that I want all coming up at the same time too. Grand Hotel, Babe: Pig In The City - many more.

Normally I maintain an equilibrium of about 4. That's how many things I have on average waiting to be viewed. 4.

Currently I have

havent watched yet teela...will get back to you in a few hours...

10:40 here..if the theater up the street had midnight Django, i would sneak my box of sweet tarts and flask in and go by myself

watched Lincoln from start to finish...slow and boring as fuck ...

Matty, there is a french show from 2001-2004 i think.. i started watching (with hard english subs, of course) called Fortier... a police unit that specialized in psych cases...its really rather good...wonder if you or other french speaking canadians have heard of it.

Of course RR! It was huge back then. Where/How the fok did you hear about it?

The Quebec TV/movie industry is ginormous thanks to the captive audience that will always pick local content over US productions. Lots of good shit being produced every year.

I know that Omerta was dubbed in English, you should try to find it. It's The Sopranos before The Sopranos.

Someone here recommended The Wire way back when.

I watched the first two seasons on Netflix based on this recommendation.

It's the most (only) realistic cop show I've ever seen.

Thanks whoever recommended it.

We'll watch one more season. Where should we stop?
