I guess the mental challenge is interesting in its own right? I don't have an answer, so I looked it up a bit. It seems that some (many?) pure mathematicians would consider it an aesthetic/artistic pursuit. I can't say that I can relate. I like math that explains and predicts things that I can see.

I've seen Good Will Hunting a few times, so I guess I like it pretty well, though I don't think it's left much of an impression on me. I liked the chemistry between the friends. I didn't care much for the love story. I feel like the Damon/Williams interactions went distractingly over the top sometimes, but had some strong moments.

so when they solve something does it tell them anything a person not in the know could understand or relate to at all?

I kinda felt like the Damon kid was more of a pompous ass than I expected early on. The fight and scene at the bar was cringe worthy for me. I was curious enough to see what happens with his genius and the Williams character to keep watching.

Gotta say I like Robin Williams in these sad roles more than his comedy. ..He does often come across as such a deeply sad, caring character.

Understand, yes. Relate to, I don't know about that. I know some of them have to do with predicting things about prime numbers. I think many of them, you could easily understand what the problem means, but you wouldn't understand why anyone really cares.

Here's the famous one that went unsolved for 300 years.

"There are no whole number solutions to the equation x^n + y^n = z^n when n is greater than 2. Prove it."

Pretty easy concept to understand. Pretty impossible for an average person to have any idea why they would care, and of course you wouldn't understand one little bit of the actual proof.

I am caught up on Fargo. Just 2 episodes is all I was behind and I have now taken them in. So now I will be week by week. Wednesdays, it comes out here on F/X.

It's intriguing. Ewan McGregor is good although there have been instances - just a couple - where some Scottish accent snuck into the Fargo-talk. That's funny - although distracting and it pulls me out of it for a second - but still funny.

But no he's actually very good overall, playing twins.

David Thewlis is a hoot.
