I don't think I ever have my "torrent client" on except when I am using it.

If you mean what I think you mean. Like, the uTorrent program ??

I have always dl'ed with abandon and I never had a warning before. But now I have.

Coming up on prime season too. I am traditionally all over the Oscar contender movies.

By default uTorrent minimizes to the tray when you close it (using the window close "x") and continues running in the background.

You want to make sure you remove your finished torrents (don't have anything in the "Seeding" folder), and exit the program via the File Menu, not by closing the window.

Also, I've been using PeerBlock forever to block the known IP addresses of MPAA, RIAA, etc. Never gotten a notice.

Can't say for sure if PeerBlock had anything to do with that or not, but.. :dunno:

Also, I hear that the blocklist is no longer being updated, so who knows how effective it can be going forward.

It is somewhat humorous - I guess - that what they referred to specifically was downloading the show The Young Pope. That will be running on HBO - and I pay for HBO - but I was just being a bit impatient as it hasn't started up in America yet.

fwiw, here was the first part of the message:

Dear Valued Customer

Re: Allegations of Copyright Infringement

Rogers has received a notice alleging that activities associated with your IP address are infringing copyright in material(s) owned or exclusively licensed by others, such as downloading a movie, music, or games.

Your privacy is important to us - we haven't told the sender who you are, and wouldn't do that without being compelled by law, like a warrant or court order. We don't track or keep records about what you do online, just what IP address we assigned to you. With that said, given the dynamic way in which IP addresses are assigned to subscribers, it is possible that the illegal activity complained of in the attached notice was committed by someone else. If this is the case, then the allegations made in the notice would not apply to you.

We're required by new Canadian copyright law to send along this notice. However, we can't verify its contents nor its sender and we can't alter its contents in any way. As a result, we are passing along to you the full, unaltered, notice from the sender as we are required to do.

You should also know that we can't confirm the merits of any settlement payment that may be requested by the sender. As Industry Canada says, "The Notice and Notice regime does not impose any obligations on a subscriber who receives a notice and it does not require the subscriber to contact the copyright owner or the intermediary. A notice of alleged infringement is separate from any lawsuit for copyright infringement. There is no legal obligation to pay any settlement offered by a copyright owner".

If you have any questions about the attached copyright notice, please contact its sender using the contact information provided in the notice. Please do not reply to this e-mail.

For more info on the rules requiring us to forward this notice to you, please check out this information page prepared by the Government of Canada: http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-BC.nsf/eng/ca02920.html.

You can also get some more info on Rogers RedBoard:

We trust you will comply with all applicable laws in using Rogers' services.

Rogers Communications Partnership

We are writing this message on behalf of HOME BOX OFFICE, INC. ("HBO"), with physical offices located at 1100 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10036, United States (Attention: Director of Anti-Piracy).

We have information leading us to believe that the IP address xxxx was used to download or share The Young Pope without authorization (additional details are listed below). HBO owns the copyright to The Young Pope and the unauthorized download or distribution constitutes copyright infringement. As the owner of and/or subscriber using the IP address at the date and time below, HBO requests that you immediately take the proper steps to prevent further downloading or sharing of HBO content and additional infringement notices, including removing any programs used to access unauthorized content and securing the network.

We have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted materials described above is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law, and we are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed. This letter is not a complete statement of HBO's rights in connection with this matter, and nothing contained herein constitutes an express or implied wavier of any rights or remedies of HBO in connection with this matter, all of which are expressly reserved.

Title: The Young Pope

Westworld is becoming a show where I almost need to watch the episodes twice. Maybe not every second of them, but there are parts I need to look at again to absorb the finer points.

I don't know if I'm just too tired after a day's work for everything to properly sink in or wut, but I had to struggle to remember the final scene of the most recent episode at all - *spoiler alert* - but now I can picture Bernard and the gun and Ford walking away and flash-bang! But the finer points of what was said to get us there - :dunno:

what is that muddy?

I wonder if reno knows. It is from the 1925 silent film Battleship Potemkin which is about the Russian Revolution and the birth of communism in Russia.

While it is a propaganda film, it is still pretty remarkable for its time and would definitely be something that film students would study. It is entirely black and white except for that flag which is shown a number of times, flapping away in bright red.

Yeah I feel the same way.

But I'm also put off by how similar it is to LOST in its trickiness.

I'm fokkin' wary.

It was strange. The day after I watched the episode I went to talk to a guy at work who I knew had seen it - and I had to ask what happened at the end. After thinking hard, I got a foggy, far-from-certain notion that Bernard had been "killed" (not that there was any chance he would be gone for good), but I couldn't remember any details at all.

It was almost reminiscent of watching stuff on the verge of an alcoholic blackout.

Super-odd thing was, buddyboy at work couldn't remember either.

:dunno::dunno:

i told you to get tunnelbear

Now you have said this, I believe, in response to my comment about downloading trubbles. However I see this on the tunnelbear site:

Unfortunately TunnelBear does not currently support the use of BitTorrent

TunnelBear does not support the use of our software to spam, violate copyright, share pirated software, unlicensed audiovisual material, or to access illegal content.

So what gives brah?

I did in fact rewatch the most recent episode of Westworld. Devastating stuff. Wow.

It is particularly interesting to be watching the series in tandem with Humans which is quite different yet connected. It brings broader dimensions to things.

Of course none of it is ultimately about AI. It's about humanity and it is not comfortable.
