Reminds me in a way of the Saturday Night Live that Betty White hosted awhile back. I was taken in by the hype enough that it was the first SNL I actually set out to watch in decades.

But it ended up being, Hey let's see how many sketches about an old person doing stuff not typically associated with old people we can stuff into 90 minutes.

Not that I lasted 90 minutes.

Lincoln (2012)

I guess I expected more. Not that it wasn't a fine film with great acting-Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field were just as good as Daniel Day Lewis and you could argue better at times. Good score but not outstanding, and it was interesting to know the politics behind the 13th amendment and exactly what they had to go through to get that accomplished. A little slow at times but overall satisfying.

7.5 Cougar Baits

I heard the criticism that Sally Field was too old. I believe the exact words were "a couple of decades too old."

Personally I would have no idea how old Anne Todd Lincoln should have been at that time. But I guess some people would know that and have expectations. Maybe the comment was just meaning she is too old compared to DDL? Dunno.

Did that strike you at all?

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter would probably be more appealing.

I joke. I prefer my vampires glittery and emo.

I'm kidding. I'm not a 13 year-old girl.

The problem with making top movies lists is that you are weighing and balancing stuff that is not fresh in your mind. I rewatched Fargo (1996) yesterday and I didn't have it on my recent list but it so clearly belongs there. And it doesn't just sneak on - it is up there with the 10's. Say, 5th overall.

Almost flawless movie. The only question mark is the odd matter of that Asian guy and what that's all about . . .

I had it rated 8 - probably meaning 8.4 - but on review, I can't see where I was deducting any points. Impeccable movie.

9.6 out of 10.

You mean Mikey the engineer who works for Honeywell and cries after he makes up the story that Linda Cooksie was his wife and she died from leukemia?

Even though they were never married in the first place?

Mikey was just a lonely Asian engineer trying to get laid Muddy.

They are out there.

On a golf trip once a married buddy told some bimbo he was a widowed peanut farmer from Georgia. I judged him.

Muddy I agree Fargo is really a good movie but seeing you rank it 5th all time on your list and rating it a 9.6 out of 10 makes me wonder what movie sits as #1 and a perfect 10?

Not sure if we're joking. I have Blow at 6 out of 10. Mild thumbs up.

To me, flawless is the absence of stuff that makes me say, "No, wrong," to the point where it interrupts the flow of the movie. That could be a million different things. A self-conscious moment of acting. A plot turn that doesn't ring true. Joke that falls flat. Distracting editing. A director such as Terence Malick squeezing his zits in the middle of everything.

When you are as critical as me, most movies - in fact I'll say all movies - even very good ones - have those moments. The question is how many.

Completely subjective of course.

I would hope figure skating judging is more defined.
