26ers, I understand. It referred to ounces of hooch. Then in later years it was converted to some number of milliliters (750?) but it was so close in size that it continued being referred to as a 26er. By old geezers anyway.

I enjoyed a nice 26er of rye with a nice 6-pack of tall cans and some nice drugs.

Nightcrawler was very good for what it was. It doesn't really have anything interesting to say, but Gyllenhaal's character is fun to watch, it's an engaging story, and it builds suspense well.

I like the talented psychopath with ambition genre, a la To Die For, which this reminded me of quite a bit.

Oh, and I watched The Babadook the other night.

It's basically a really tidy The Fisher King, only with a widowed mother instead of Robin Williams. And no love interest. And it's really different in a lot of other ways.

But still, same idea. Visually interesting hallucinated monster as an obvious metaphor for suppressed grief.

Anyway, pretty good stuff. Amazing performance by the lead actress, solid performance from the kid. Very good looking movie. That's about it.

The Elephant Man, by the way, while I have it rated 6, has an overall imdb rating of 8.2. That is damn high.

I am a tough grader.

Not usually that tough. I would guess my ratings average about a point below the composite. So something stood out to me negatively that most people accepted I guess.

But there it is. Thought I'd mention it.

It so happens I looked into that very question following my recent rewatch.

I mean I didn't do a comprehensive investigation but as far as acting, she has petered. Averaging about one project per year since Ghost World. All but one I never heard of (and I don't remember her in Silver City.)

A lot of really lowly rated shit in there.

Only one project of any kind since 2011.

Petered.
