It has to be said though: I have very warm, snuggly feelings about Michelle Monaghan. Have for a long time - and it hasn't changed with True Detective.

She's talented, beautiful. Seems like a fun personality. She seems like she could make a fortune doing romcoms. She's perfect for it. To her credit, she is not pursuing that. I mean, I think I remember her doing one awhile back but it is clearly not her focus.

Then again maybe the world doesn't see what I see and the opportunity just isn't there. :dunno:

I would like to hug and kiss her.

POSTER TRON DON'T READ BELOW

So what are our theories re: True Detective? I'm afraid that the ending is going to be underwhelming. The case is 90% solved already - a bunch of sickos did those sacrifices. Big reveal is going to be the guy with the scars, then we'll get some kind of closure between Rust and Marty, I suppose.

I hope there's a HUGH twist.

Just tell poster Tron to kindly eff off from your post.

BTW I'm afraid we're gonna get a paranormal cop-out type of ending, la Lost. Black woman saying that "death is not the end", Rust rambling about spacetime being a flattened circle to an outside observer, etc.

Ima be pissed if they invoke people in the sky or some other extra-sensorial bullcrap.

TRON DON'T READ WHAT'S ABOVE. :guitar:

Tron, DONT READ MY POST. SPOILER ALERT.

Well in the preview you see someone tied to a table, I think Rust gets killed.
I think him and Marty get split up trying to catch the killer(s).
I think Marty's family will somehow be involved...perhaps his daughter gets abducted.
I think in the end they confirm that the three Tuttle boys, and the Childress father and son are the five horseman.
That's I can fathom right now.

I agree about Rust and pretty much everything both of you had to say.

You're welcome for the original thought.

I could see it going one other direction though. Cliff Claven from Cheers bursts in at the end and violently orders a beer from from Marty, threatening him with postal fraud if he doesn't oblige. Being that they are fighting off a bunch of animal faced psychos at the time Marty slings a warm beer at Cliff Claven hoping he'll let him slide on it, Claven refuses it so suddenly Al Pacino burts in, tackles Rust and Cliff pees on Rust like in that scene in Two for The Money. Dude with scars launches a fireball killing Rust, Marty, Cliff and Pacino and starts celebrating with his friends in animal masks. He picks up the beer and gets pissed that it is now actually hot as opposed to warm from said fireball. Forgetting that the fireball was actually his own fault he has lightning bolts kill all of his friends in animal masks. He then remembers that he initiated said fireball, feels immediately ridden with guilt and has a giant foot come crashing in from the skies squashing him. His arm is all you can see sticking out from giant foot, and slowly it lets the beer go and beer slowly pours into the earth.

Fade to black, enter credits.

More on TD.

There are a couple things they have made a point of showing us that I have to wonder why. One is lawncare dude whose family has been in the area for a long time. He was also in an earlier episode. Could just be for atmosphere but I'm thinking there's more.

Other thing is the issue with one or both of Marty's daughter being a bit loopy. They show one being cruel to the other at a young age, throwing her toy up in a tree, and then one has an issue with creating disturbing art at school. I can't even remember if it's the same sister. Of course there was the being-a-turbo-slut incident, followed by beat-down of the boys. Then in the most recent episode there was the comment, present-day, about the one going off her meds. It all seems a bit too specific to just be background. Maybe though. Or maybe there was abuse?? Something relevant happened to her?

And then there's Jay O Sanders (Billy Lee Tuttle). Not that he's Laurence Olivier or anything but he is a big enough name that I expect a significant amount more from him. He's got to play a big role in the final episode, I'm thinking.

How does that all fit together though . . . ?

I'll tell you something I am going to watch: the new Cosmos series. It is described as a 13 week follow up to the original series with Carl Sagan which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Seth McFarlane is behind it for some reason. It's called Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.

But it's supposed to be straight up science - hopefully made accessible and entertaining - in the tradition of the original. What's-his-name celebrity astrophysics guy is hosting.

It premiers on Sunday March 9th on various Fox channels and runs for 13 weeks.
