Steve Carell is not sure how he got into this situation

Boardwalk Empire - Season 1 - Great show. Very solid all-around.

I have nothing negative to say except one observation which may or may not be seen as criticism. There have been a lot of shows which became available to me and I am so immediately absorbed that I end up watching episode after episode until I have seen the whole season in like 4 days. This was not like that. I watched the 12 episodes spread out over probably 8 weeks. I feel like that is more a statement on how my tendencies are changing than any weakness in the show.

But whatever, there it is.

Anyway, I really like the show and can only think of the slightest, nit-pickiest complaints about it.

9 out of 10

Take This Waltz (2011) - So if seeing full frontal nudity of Sarah Silverman is a priority for you, then this is your flick.

No but seriously man, it's a bit of a hidden gem. I know this sort of relationship study isn't for everyone but I thought it had a freshness. I came away with more to think about than with the vast majority of of movies I see, even if I am not totally in accord with the ultimate point being made.

On-screen, Michelle Williams owns it. Everyone else is window dressing but she is enough. It is written and directed by Sarah Polley who has a lot of promise for a strong career behind the camera.

I have a few quibbles but overall, 7.3 out of 10

Began watching Breaking Bad on Netflix 2 weeks ago. I'm to the end of Season 4 now and I feel like this is the best show I've ever seen. The writing, the odd humor, the story and character development, etc. Although, I have been told I would really like the Wire I've never seen that. But this is better than the Sopranos and light years better than Mad Men (which I used to love and has now turned into a joke). So the big revelation in Mad Men for the new season is that Pete and Don are cheaters. Jesus. That thing is going nowhere. That's one thing about Breaking Bad I love. I don't have to wait through the whole season for huge developments. From one episode to the next there are huge changes. Walter White is an interesting character, his ego is both what brings him success and gets him in trouble. His insecurity about his professional career carries over to his meth career and he makes mistakes when he lets it dictate his decision making. If anyone enjoys the wife let me know. If there's a hit on her I'd be fine with that. No-I mean I understand you're not supposed to like her and therein lies the dynamic of the show and also makes you root more for Walt.

Anyway, Breaking Bad is good. Really good.

You're still rooting for Walt at the end of season 4?

Seems like the last season ended so long ago that I only vaguely remember many of the storylines. But from what I recall, I'm pretty sure Walt has been a complete piece of shit and reprehensible character since well before the fourth season.

Have you made it to the episode where Walt throws a baby out the window of a speeding car?

I have certain actors that I have a hate for. Hate may be the wrong word - but they just don't work for me. I never lose myself in the performance; I just see an actor trying to act. They will single-handedly ruin entire movies for me. In some cases, I will avoid movies just because I know they are in them.

It seems like it is always females. Keira Knightly, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway.

Well just to show that I am an equal opportunity hater: Martin Sheen.

He always seems like he is doing a bad James Dean impression.

James Dean was bad enough - but a bad impression of him? Get off my leg.

Actually, he could be added to the can't-act hate list too. He didn't do many movies but he sure did manage to be conspicuous with his ACTING.

James Dean.

If you haven't completed season 2 of Breaking Bad be aware that the below is a complete spoiler for you

When Walt let Jessie's girlfriend die from the overdose he clinched permanent douchebag status imo; I still root for him though because wtf else are we supposed to do?

Classic Mad Men last night. I like it best when it shows the daily life of the agency. Harry blowing a fuse was a great oh-no-he-didn't moment. One more episode like that and I might start to think that the show is back on track.

The GF made me discover a great show on Netflix this weekend, Judd Apatow's Freaks and Geeks. It features the actress who currently plays Don Draper's mistress, (Linda Cardellini - what a gorgeous face!) and all the usual Apatow suspects (his wife whose name I forget, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and a bunch more). Very clever and funny show about teenagism. 8.6 Matty Rains out of a possible 10

I think I get what you're talking about. He's developed that phony deer-in-the-headlights stare over the years. But Apocalypse Now-era Martin Sheen was a badass.
