Well I'll be jiggered.

I was a bit surprised how many movies I have seen him in. If I had've just stopped and thought about it, I probably would have come up with 10 or so - but no, 27.

Plus he was in Angels in America which I don't count here.

Taking over from the late Richard Harris as Albus Dumbledore on the Harry Potter movies got that number up.

Oh you know what? I tried to download season 1 but I ended up with a bit of a mess. I've got quite a few complete episodes, but not #1. I definitely am going to start with ep. 1

And then I started getting messages from my Internet provider how I had used 75% of my monthly bandwidth (or whatever) - but I was only like 20% into the period - that download must have been a big part of the reason - and I don't really know what that starts costing when I go over - guess I could just ask them.

Anyway I held off.

But I'll get to it definitely.

(I also remembered that, when I was listing TV shows I watch, I forgot Louie.)

Flight (2012) - Plane scene is quite something. Wow. The second act (drama about addiction) is also excellent. Acting is top-notch throughout. John Goodman is an hilarious drug dealer.

Enjoyed this from beginning to end. Yay degenerates. :guitar:

9.0 Matty Rains

Best movie I've seen in a while.

Accurate rating.

John Goodman is very Big Lebowski-esque.

So where shall we go with the actors/movies quest today? So far we got:

Denzel Washington - 31
Julianne Moore - 28
Michael Gambon - 27
David Paymer - 21

Lemme see . . . howzabout someone I don't particularly like but is probably at a pretty high number anyway - Julia Roberts . . .

24

And one of the big boys and early betting favorites: Al Pacino . . .

Huh. Only 26.

He's only got 46 titles altogether over 45 years. Not nearly as busy as a lot of guys.

I rewatched the latest House of Lies and I have to say what they did there covering Cheadle's descent into Hell with Sonny Terry tunes was impressive. That show had been losing me a little bit but that was some good watching mang, love me some old school blues.

Carrying on with my trivial (yet somehow fascinating to me) nonsense about actors/movies, so far it's:

Denzel Washington - 31
Julianne Moore - 28
Michael Gambon - 27
Al Pacino - 26
Julia Roberts - 24
David Paymer - 21

Howzabout Matt Damon. He hasn't been around super long, but he does a lot of stuff . . .

28

Curious about supporting players. Try Allison Janney . . .

Yeah just 17

Dustin Hoffman ???

Tie for the lead at 31

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) - Well they are trying pretty hard here in this dark retelling of the Snow White story.

It's okay I guess. They tried hard.

Some things looked good with all kinds of interesting (although often irrelevant) artistic details.

Obviously I have a problem with a Mirror, Mirror that can judge in an absolute sense who is the fairest of them all. Does this Mirror, Mirror have no understanding of subjectivity? Apparently not. I had fantasies of the Dude wandering in:

Yeah-well-you-know-thats-just-like-your-opinion-man.jpg

But then it's impossible to imagine, even understanding subjectivity as I do, any circumstance in which an uppity, smarty-pants mirror could be asked to name the fairest of them all and come up with Kristen Stewart who looks kinda busted up and nauseous most of the time. So all that just has to be set aside.

Vanity is bad, people! That's what you need to know.

There is a lot of weak acting in this. That would mainly be Kristen Stewart again - although Charlize Theron induces a few cringes too. Interesting contrast of styles. No-acting-at-all versus over-the-top-and-then-some.

The story is the story. It's got detours and irrelevancies but it has the basic tried-and-true formula and you get your catharsis.

Whoops. Belated spoiler alert.
