She's dreamy. Reminds me of Dexters sister.

Zorba the Greek (1964) - I really disliked this former Best Picture nominee.

Here's the main thing I learned. I enjoy movies more when the people in them do stuff that resembles what human beings would do. This movie had scene after scene of contrived nonsense that didn't ring true. And then when the script did call for realistic actions, the characters were crappy and unlikable.

Was I supposed to like Zorba? Was I supposed to take away an important life lesson from his philosophy, and how he danced after he fucked everything up by being so idiotic?

Ugh. Did not like this movie.

3 out of 10.

Bold statement. We're giving it a shot.

It wasn't bad, by any means, but not great either. I enjoyed their version of the What got my attention was simply that it was a local movie, I've driven through that tunnel plenty of times. I have eaten stickey's at ye old college dinner many times. So that in itself made me interested. I also enjoyed their version of "The Rockey Horror Pciture Show", that's something we did in our highschool too. I don't care muchfor Emma Watson, she just seems so very dull to me. I think that Ezra Miller played his roll rather well. Over all, it was a decent watch, but to bland for my taste. 7.5steveiballs.

P.S. Ezra Miller is also the main character in "we need to talk about Kevin", he seems to fit the odd ball/twisted characters well. Make me wonder how sane he is or isn't in real life.

One Oscar category I have a strong opinion on is Best Supporting Actor. Here's what we got:

ALAN ARKIN - ARGO
+2200

ROBERT DE NIRO - SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
+500

PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN - THE MASTER
+700

TOMMY LEE JONES - LINCOLN
+140

CHRISTOPH WALTZ - DJANGO UNCHAINED
-130

I've included the CRIS odds in there but I'm not meaning to suggest any betting with this. But I have seen all these performances and here's who SHOULD be the winner in a fokking landslide.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Alan Arkin's extreme dog line is correct. I like the guy but there is no reason for a nomination for that. Deniro and Jones, similar reaction. Competent nothing. Whole bunch of shrugs for those 3. Christoph Walz was good. I would vote for him second. His character was very similar to Inglourious Basterds and it makes me wonder if, like the other guys, he was basically just playing a version of himself. But I dunno. Some humor in there anyway.

But Jesus Christ, Hoffman is the only guy here who did any acting. He was outstanding. He had stuff to do and he did it so well.

He should win and there should be no debate.

My opinion.

I'll say this too regarding The Master: no reason Joaquin Phoenix shouldn't win Best Actor. It's a phenomenal performance. Unfortunately it's a very unappealing character but in terms of inhabiting the role and really doing shit with it, he was flawless.

It's a foregone conclusion that Daniel Day-Lewis will win; the line I heard was that he was basically awarded the Oscar as soon as people saw the first Lincoln posters. And I'm not knocking him in any way. I appreciate his performance completely and I'm okay with it if he wins.

But Phoenix was just as good. They should be 1(a) and 1(b) - but Day-Lewis is -5000 and Phoenix is +5000.

yeah there were some good episodes early on - towards the end all the characters annoyed me, storyline took too many twists and was unbelieveable.

not a waste of time by any means but my appetite for Breaking Bad has been satisfied.
