and how can they get medicine out of the insurance system? Where would all those people who make a living off it go?

So I guess they are trying to not put us all in prison, by inventing and perpetuating useless jobs. Sure be a lot easier to pay people to stay home and stare at ceiling :hmm:

you see the dilemma right FW?

If you do that what do you do with the useless people? (which I'm thinking can be >50% of population) jail or welfare.

Do you think Steve is a victim of the system or should cops overlook someone behind the wheel who blew roughly a .21? What do you believe a fair punishment is for him? He gets another alcohol offense the day after that, now what do you do? Unfortunately there are a lot of people like that - and far worse.

The question is more what would happen if people stopped breaking the law in mass? How would all the people formerly making a living off the "lawlessness" survive?
We do ultimately want less lawlessness right?

throughout history, there has been armies, laws and some sort of police force. The issue isn't with them. The issue is with people who think they are above the law, that the world "owes" them and they are gonna get theirs no matter what.

yeah sure. I think you all are missing the bigger point though.
We can't eliminate a lot of terrible shit from society because there are organizations and people who make a living off of them. As mentioned earlier:
can't eliminate insurance from medicine
can't simplify the tax code
can't lower crime
can't stop building up the military and threatening war. etc etc etc
The incentive is to create more mess, more organizations, more jobs, to funnel the money and let the people make a living and the higher ups profit. ..Otherwise what are you gonna do with all those people?
And this only gets worse as technology makes more jobs, more people obsolete.

You're the one missing the point. Roll with the changes or else, it's been like that since the invention of the wheel.

Talking about theory with no real plan is pointless. Nothing gets done that way. Ok, we have overcrowding in jails, how can we fix it?

Jack Ma at Davos

Alibaba founder Jack Ma thinks America went wrong over the past 30 years by focusing too much on war and Wall Street. Speaking at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, Ma was asked about globalisation and the reaction to it represented by the election of Donald Trump as US president.

He responded that back when Thomas Friedman published "The World Is Flat" in 2005, globalisation looked like "a perfect strategy" for the US: "We just want the technology, and the IP, and the brand, and we'll leave the other jobs" to other countries like Mexico and China, he said.

"American international companies made millions and millions of dollars from globalisation," Ma said.

As an example of just how much was available, Ma said, "When I graduated from university I tried to buy a beeper, and it cost me $250. My pay at the time was $10 a month."

"IBM, Microsoft," he added, "the profit they made was larger than the top four banks in China put together ... But where did the money go?"

Ma said that 30 years ago the American companies that people in China heard about were Ford and Boeing. Today the companies that people in China talk about are in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street.

At the same time, the US spent a lot of money on foreign conflicts. "In the past 30 years, America had 13 wars spending $2 trillion ... no matter how good your strategy is you're supposed to spend money on your own people," Ma said. "The money goes to Wall Street. Then what happened? Year 2008 wiped out $19.2 trillion in US income ... What if the money was spent on the Midwest of the United States?"

"The other countries steal jobs from you guys that is your strategy. You did not distribute the money in the proper way."

I haven't seen it. But Emily (ya'll know her as Emma) and I grew up together in AZ and did theatre together. We're still friends, tho these days we just have random text convos - she's not your typical celeb.

I know. That's why I made my comment and asked the question.

Looks like she is the betting favorite right now for the Oscar.
