I don't really know enough about your businesss, but any chance you are getting acquired/merging?

Sorry to hear.

Anything is possible. There have been various mergers and reorganizations in the company's history. We have sold off two pieces of the business in the last 6 months.

It is a shaky business anyway. The main product is something that anyone can get cheaper at Best Buy or whatever.

Hard to see much future in it.

As much as I hoped it could be the last job in my life, I have never felt totally settled here.

So our CEO is leaving. Yesterday, her assistant started passing around a giant card for people to sign, and I was somehow the first person asked to sign it. I hate signing cards, so I just wrote a platitude in 5 seconds and gave it back. It did occur to me that the card wouldn't be giant enough to contain 180 goodbye messages.

But what I saw this morning was unbelievable. The card came back to our dept 'cause someone wasn't here yesterday.

So people heard about the card and they decided to, get this, reserve real estate in the fucking card by sticking Post-Its on it. Presumably so they would have time to find the best way to brown-nose the departing CEO, but also to prevent lesser people from using prime space in the card.

They did not put their names on the Post-Its.

I want names.
Wow. Reserving space on a card.

Is the CEO leaving of his/her own accord or was he/she laid off?

She's leaving on her own. When she announced her departure, the board praised her work and seemed genuinely sad and annoyed that she would step down.

I think she wanted to give her job to her protg - our current VP of Marketing, an old friend of hers who just recovered from breast cancer and a double mastectomy. It kinda makes sense. She prolly has it made and does not need to deal with the pressure of leading a stagnating business any longer.

At least they got rid of toolbox guy. aka - sit-on-the-toilet-and-play-with-his-phone guy. A more useless, shiftless oaf, I have seldom encountered.

That on its own would be a true high-five occurrence.

They got rid of Mohammed though, my Somali buddy. Real nice guy and a good worker.

7 people in all, across the country.

They went straight for the warehouse operation with the cuts. Madness really. All the chicks in the office are going to have to learn how to help out there.

Supposed to have a phone meeting with one of the big bosses in B.C. today. My big question: what do these cuts indicate as far as future raises? Is spending frozen, therefore no raises? Or are there a few dollars freed up so people who work their asses off get proper raises when the time comes?

???

I was wondering about the phone guy. As long as they are "trimming the fat," it's good they got rid of him.

Are you planning to actually pose that question during the meeting? You might want to make sure you're definitely in the clear first. ?

Yes, I am definitely going to ask that and also the question of if they expect overtime and plan to pay for it.

Money is a big issue for me right now. I need these answers to plan my future.

No fear of being let go. For one thing, they won't. For another, go ahead.

Work is more enjoyable now.

I always work hard all day - because I like to - so no change there. But removing the vibe that a chunk of my hard work is basically covering for a toolish lummox while he sits on the toilet and plays with his phone ----> more spiritually serene.

Having a barbecue lunch today at work. Apparently there are also going to be games. The company has been split into 4 teams and we are having contests all year and accumulating points. Like the easter egg hunt was one (which I played a huge role in winning for my team ::megarock:).

Today there is some kind of singing contest - noice - that is up my alley - and some kind of shoe kicking contest. Don't know about that.

Social committee hard at work. They got ideas, those people.
