Got moved to yet another area yesterday. Specialty packing.

Sometimes we sell stuff that requires special treatment for shipping and that all comes to me now.

I'm kinda bummed. I was all getting into chasing the production numbers - and now this slows me right down. Everybody knows that so I am not expected to get to 225 like everyone else - but, as I say, I was kind of enjoying the chase.

Guess I'll just have to get there despite being slowed down. Guess I'll just have to be that good.

Bitches.

Big day yesterday. I am working in an area where productivity is measured by lines (of UPS orders packed). In order to be considered up-to-snuff, the standard is 225 lines per day.

For many reasons, it takes time to get that good. A couple or three months even. Most days these days, there are only like 3 guys that hit that (out of ~15). There are a lot of guys who have been there from 1-3 months with personal bests in the 170's - so they're not close - and even the experienced guys won't hit it a lot of days.

Some people - lots of people - will never hit it. It's hard.

So anyway I set a personal best of 181 last Sunday. Through the week I inched up day-by-day, finally hitting 185 on Thursday.

Anyway, point being, yesterday - BOOM! ---> 201. AND I did that with still 45 minutes left. We just ran out of orders. Considering my pace was a line every 2 minutes, I would be RIGHT THERE.

That's what's called a quantum leap, bitches.

Leap-frogged over a bunch of guys half my age that have been at it quite a bit longer.

So that feels pretty good.

Great job Muddy but be careful! Co-workers can get jealous and don't want to see a heavy package fall out of the sky on you! Stay alert!

I'm all downtrodden 'n shit.

No but I volunteered for the shift and the money is indeed good. We'll see how it goes. Wouldn't be surprised if it lasts 2 weeks and then they want me back on the original shift to train on an order picker truck or some damn thing.

A lot of moving parts at that place.

That's tough man. I worked some nights nowhere close to the level of what you're doing but I know how it goes - you lose your night time social life and you make more money. There's nothing wrong with that, I say. Many people work nights and in most cases the money isn't that close.

I am anticipating one interesting thing this week: I intend to propose a change (improvement obviously) to a block of procedures.

Now this is not like my previous job where I would see something which could be done better - which happened about a thousand times - so I started doing the thing differently - and maybe others followed along - maybe they didn't - (usually they did a couple months later) - but everybody just basically did whatever the fuck they wanted.

Not the case at my current place. Procedures are exacting and invariable and in writing. There is no room for creativity or moods. For me to change these procedures would require filing some kind of formal proposal through head office in Wisconsin - where it would be evaluated in detail and - if approved - would then be sent out to all franchises across North America. Everybody would be doing the thing my way - OR ELSE!

Or I would be denied.

I have no idea what my chances are. My idea is great - it would save time and money for materials involved in the specific process - those are undeniable facts - but I don't know what kind of inflexible bureaucracy I may be up against. I can only see one potential con - which seems insignificant to me - but it could possibly be much more important than I imagine for reasons I can't fathom right now.

So I don't know.

I will start feeling this out tomorrow. Pray for me.

Hump Day is an expression people use to describe getting past the midway point of the workweek.

It is an expression I don't use and frankly find kinda ghey.

Since I now work Sunday to Thursday - I pass that midway point on Tuesday - which is today.

If I used the expression Hump Day, today would have been it.

But no.

That makes sense. I would not call yesterday Hump Day in that context neither.

They have started major construction on the parking lots at my building. Very loud noise starts at 8 a.m. My normal get-up time is 9:30.

Those good at math will note there is a conflict there.

This is supposed to go on for ~8 weeks.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee
