It bears gently pointing out that those are not just things that get mentioned here. Those are things Twitter users say. Getting things faster and seeing what people you are interested in are thinking - that's why it's a thing. That's what differentiates it from just going on the internet.

:dunno: so they say

Yeah and I guess my opinion is different than the "average Twitter user" because I don't go on there for those things. Makes sense.

There are rising tensions at work. There is one guy who just doesn't work hard, and the other young guy seems to be growing increasingly resentful. So far it is limited to bad-mouthing lazy/useless guy behind his back, but I can't help but wonder if there will be an explosion at some point.

It is legit, the resentment. Useless dude is the living, breathing cliche of our time, stopping every 10 minutes to check his device with his jaw dangling open. Sits there typing with his thumbs while three people are working their asses off all around him. Takes like 5 extended bathroom breaks per day where you know he is checking messages and posting to his facebook or whatever.

It is the boss's fault really. It shouldn't be allowed. But boss is one of those too-nice guys.

So we'll see what happens.

We had one of those. She got away with it because of how she looked. Literally the whole company watched on as she got away with 3 hour lunches to do her nails, play on her phone etc etc...she had some sort of fling with the VP and certainly he wasn't doing anything. ..When the merger first happened we thought "finally. There is no way the new owners will put up with this." Last I heard she was promoted twice and is now driving a company car. This is not me being a jealous female. She was not stupid, but she was certainly not fit to be in management. What she was good at was making all the male executives think they had a shot at sleeping with her.

There was talk from others about filing suit for hostile workplace/reverse discrimination or something. I still shake my head.

Some people shouldn't be bosses. I am an example of someone who should not be a boss. My current boss is another example.

He would do great if all employees were like me and just wanted to work their ass off all day because it makes the day go faster. In other words, he would be a great boss if no bossing was required. Just answer the occasional question and we're done. But back to reality . . .

A live and let live philosophy is a great thing for personal inner peace. However in trying to coordinate a bunch of people with different skills and tendencies to accomplish some kind of team goal ---> no, not really.

Had a transaction go south on me recently after roughly 6 months of work, really helping someone out. They had it planned the whole time and the second they realized we knew they simply disappeared. Thousands of dollars hundreds of hours for myself and the company down the drain because I couldn't be better and sniff it out. Part of the gig and I get that but shit, I have to be better and know when I'm getting worked this hurt others too. Fuckin rough one man. I needed to prevent that happening and I don't know how I could have. I just don't but I need to find something in it to know better for next time.

From your example I think you'd make an excellent boss.

You get it.

Plus you're old. Old bosses are cool.
+1

My "boss" was younger than me. In fact she was a friend of a daughter, and I got her the job essentially. I turned down that position because I was making 2.5x the money and the manager position was capped. It was a weird setup because of that, Also the rest of the department came to me with questions because I knew more and she was never around. In the end she kept her job post merger because she was management and made less...

and because probably sucked a dick or two....or at least them think it might happen.

She wasn't that bright but girl had street smarts.

I have been a boss and it wasn't a good situation. It was not good for departmental results, and I was not happy doing it. It didn't end well (although that was more because of situational factors, not just me.)

Since then, I have been offered managerial jobs a couple times. Even though they would have been more money, I have turned them down.

As far as strategizing and teaching, I can be very good. But as far as taking corrective actions - which always seems to be necessary - there always has to be at least one lummox in every handful - usually more than one ---> no, I just want to do my own thing.

I could be a good boss as long as there were no employees.
