Oh I get it. I should have realized.

Gordie Howe.

A gray-haired Gordie Howe is in the game. Prolly 1980-ish, post WHA. I think there was that one year where he was back in the NHL and they put him in the all-star game at the age of 50 or whatever.

I just saw him getting an assist. A rare all-star game assist.

That's why they're showing a ridiculous all-star game as an NHL CLASSIC.

Nevermind, carry on.

I was surprised that Crosby won the Conn Smythe.

Not based on any observation - I watched very little - but I am always listening to chatter and based on that, I didn't see that coming at all. I don't recall his name being mentioned by experts as being in the running even once in the entire playoffs.

Kessel, yes, a hundred times. Murray a bit. Letang a tiny bit.

But not Crosby.

I'm pleased enough - but surprised.

Vinny Lecavalier retires. Some people are calling his career a HoF one, and I think they're nuts.

Sure, he was a first overall pick. Sure, he won a Cup. Made a bunch of all-star teams. But his peak was pretty short. Only a couple of point-per-game seasons and his final tally comes up way short of the unofficial 1 PPG threshold for a HoF forward. 421 goals and 949 points in over 1200 games.

He was good and showed flashes of brilliance in the mid-2000's. But common. I think Pavel Datsyuk is more deserving and he too is a pretty borderline case.

 borderline case. Only the last great skill player in hockey history. Do you hosers even watch hockey?

Go Jaromir. I wonder if he gets the point tonight to go into 2nd all time?

So. We got a match-up tonight between teams with 12 and 14 game winning streaks.

No surprise to NHL historians that those teams would be the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild.

I was sort of trying to be funny there, commenting like those are traditional NHL powers. Haha.

No but seriously man, there have been overtime/shootout wins in those streaks - so there is no real context for long-term historical comparison since games used to end in ties and therefore the winning streak was over. I imagine if this game goes to O/T, the losing team will still be crowing about their such-and-such game unbeaten streak.

Even though they got beat.

No but seriously man, let's give everyone a participation trophy.
