The NHL, concerned that it was starting to seem like a real big-time league, did this:

On the eve of the biggest game of the year, a Game 7 against the Penguins, the Lightning canceled their watch party scheduled to be held outside of Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay for the road game.

Because they hoped those few thousand people would go watch on their individual TV's. Because ratings are so precarious that that makes a difference and that is more important than enthusiasm and fun.

In an official statement from the NHL head office: "We are bush-league as fok and yeah."

What was the deal with the TO. I didn't get it.

I wondered why too but announcer explained the Sharks were putting lots of offensive pressure on the Pens D quickly in the OT and Pens iced it and before face-off Pitt coach called TO to give guys rest! Is it something about after an icing players on ice must stay on for the face-off? :dunno:

yep, they say that's the rule. I guess that's what makes for a great coach these days: call a timeout every one in a while :dunno:

The timeout is a great move when the other team is on a roll and your team is exhausted. I used it many times on the outdoor volleyball circuit from 1992-2000, sometimes to snort some blow to get geared up for a big hit/block.
