12 semis pileup and who knows how many cars on the expressway by me right now. Just an ugly day.

Looks like this was what FW was describing .......

About 15 tractor-trailers and 15 other vehicles crashed during whiteout conditions near Michigan City.

Three people died and more than 20 others were injured Thursday in a massive pileup involving tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles on Interstate 94 in northwestern Indiana.

The Indiana State Police said one injured person remained trapped several hours after the series of crashes, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. near Michigan City, Ind., between Exits 26 and 40. Police blamed the pileup, which involved about 15 semis and 15 other vehicles, on whiteout conditions from a lake-effect storm blowing through the region.

All eastbound lanes were closed, and several state roads were either closed or blocked in what was called a "critical disruption" of traffic. Traffic was being rerouted slowly on the westbound lanes.

Whiteout conditions also caused several other crashes on I-94, which troopers called "impassable." Drivers were urged to avoid the area, about 50 miles east of Chicago.

Cold as fok here and get this: I stopped and picked up a DQ Blizzard on the way home from work.

It was strange, surreal. It is so cold at work, particularly at the end of the day when a couple of couriers come for big pickups and we throw the overhead doors wide open and load 'em up. The whole warehouse is an ice box. Your hands are dry and cracked and the fingers don't work right from being cold through. And you're still feeling some of that as the day finishes up and I go to my car - which seems to take forever to warm up on days like this. And I drove

. . . . and I stopped at DQ to get this frozen thing to carry through the windswept, stupid-cold parking lot.

It was like, am I really doing this?

I'll have it later and will really enjoy it I'm sure. It was that intellectual understanding that allowed to me to carry out that very counterintuitive action.
