Bread, you shitting on Teela, at least she is helping her community. You and Robyn are letting the mexicans run wild in you hood. Maybe you should coach the mexican's soccer team.

:clueless: Where did I shit on Teela? That was so two weeks ago.

I just asked if she played soccer in high school. Looks like you're already getting your money's worth out of that $600 liquor bill

Bread give me some more time, I will be starting plenty of shit later.

Blitty, I volunteered for 20 years as a youth coach. I started out just doing baseball and then the next year I coached baseball and football and then by year number 4 I was coaching baseball, basketball and football.

I absolutely loved coaching but I allowed it to pretty much dominate my life for those 20 years. You figure there are practices 3 times a week and at least a game on Saturday and sometimes during the week as well and this is year round when doing all 3 sports.

Its not cheap either. My last year coaching I spent over $5000 just during baseball season. That was regular season and summer All-Stars so the amount of money is a little misleading but a bundle all the same.

Naturally you dont have to spend that much money. You can use city equipment and city uniforms but if you want the good stuff you either have to do it yourself or be a good fund raiser. Not to mention on game days parents need coach to drive the kids to the games which means youre also feeding the kids. It adds up pretty quickly.

Thats the negatives. The positives are developing a kid. Taking a kid with limited or no skills and making him better and even sometimes good. Taking a kid with natural talent and turning that ability into something refined and really good. Seeing a kid or kids youve coached not only be a success in high school but go on to college and sometimes that rare kid or 2 makes it to the pros.

Blitty, few things in life are more rewarding and less recognized than volunteering. If you decide to do it do it for the right reasons and do it all out. I dont mean in money I mean in spirit. Give those kids the best you have and youll be all the better for it.

One of the guys on my new hockey team, was telling me that he was gonna volunteer to coach inner-city youths in ice hockey. The program is called Ice Hockey In Harlem. I am considering to become involved. It seems like a good cause...

Does anyone else have any stories about Volunteering? What are the pros and cons of doing something like this?

I coached baseball for 5 years. Most parents (of the other kids) don't realize how much time it takes. Organizing practices, setting batting orders, meetings, going to the games. I loved it, the kids but hated almost every parent there was.
