Hahahahaha omg that video is gold. How many times did you do it Bread? Why did you stop?

That puts out another question. Once you stop doing something like that, isn't it like "Alright, I did my part, now im done" or "Wow, I'm glad to cross that off the bucket list. I'm a good person after three sessions". It seems like you would have to keep doing forever or something. I guess thats just a pessimistic view point. With hockey at least winter ends, and that finalizes the whole ordeal.

Blitty, if you are volunteering for the right reasons, more than likely, you develop a friendship with the kid. It's pretty much a commitment. You are there because their fucking parent's (who never should have kids in the first place) aren't. MANDATORY STERILIZATION, PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Roger that. I was going to mention that earlier.

The damnedest thing is, you can get into something for the wrong reason - and still end up doing a lot of good for others - and yourself - and maybe somewhere along the line, something clicks and you find yourself wanting to do it for the right reason.

Worst case is always that you tried something and it didn't work out and life goes on. Not so bad.

Wow Tully. You really sum up my thought process for the whole thing with your post. It is very hard to see myself doing something like that, which is kind of a motivator in making me want to try it out.

I called in to find out more info. I will have send in an application, then I have to go to a 7 hour class in NJ, to get my level 1 certification for coaching beforehand. The lady asked if I had a preference with what age group of kids to work with. I said 'not really', and she was like 'Oh great that way we can just stick you somewhere'. I'm thinking I would prob. rather teach older kids than younger, but I don't know....What do you recommend?

Not sure if it matters with an inner city program. Generally, the older the age group, the more competitive the kids, and the games are. At some point it is not just about having fun, but about winning. Not sure that an inner city program is going to play in state and regional tournaments. The program in Boston seems to be more of a house league.

older kids no doubt.
teaching young kids to play sports is like herding cats

Thats what I was thinking. I could tell by the ladies tone on the phone, when she was like,"Oh you don't have a preference, we will just stick you somewhere". It seems like people in the know, would probably rather not be with really young kids.

Its kinda funny, that to get the level 1 coaching certificate, they don't even look at your on-ice performance. It is all done in the classroom.
