Muse, do you recommend getting the flu shot? Work is offering it for free.

Matty.... My anecdotal experiences with the flu shot are that they aren't worth a shit. Basically they expose you to X amount of strains of the flu so your body can build up antibodies to them, thus possibly protecting you from contracting the flu if you are exposed to that strain. But it's not guaranteed and they hurt like hell.

I've had the flu shot twice. Got the flu the first time like a month after the shot and just got one about 3 weeks ago. So we'll see. My hospital really pushes us hard to get them so they tend to think they work.

Basically there's really nothing negative associated with getting them. They won't get you sick or give your future kids autism and if it's free, I'd say get it. But don't expect to not get sick this winter and do expect to feel like someone hit you in that arm with a bat :)

I can totally empathize about addiction. In fact, I'm battling addiction right now and have been for the last year and a half. I've been addicted to pain killers because of two surgeries I've had. Just today was my 3rd day without pain killers (because I ran out) in the last 18 months and today has been pure hell. I've been anxious, fidgety and irritable. Can't sit still and just pissed off. So I went and saw a surgeon friend that did me a HUGE favor and wrote me for 50 Norco 10's.

I have a terrible addictive personality as does my father. He buys narcs online as no doctor will write for him anymore. I'm sure I'll soon be in the same boat. So he buys online.

RJ you are SUPER lucky friend that you can just quit so easily. I only wish.

Ok now I'm scared.

lol, I did see some 80 year old ladies at the pharmacy I was just at getting the flu shots. Matty, you can do this. Be strong. Be Gamelive pal.

Edit so I'm not post whoring:

Choo, I know nothing of alcohol allergies, sorry. Do you think you have them or just curious? I'd be interested to hear more

Tip for the day guys...

If you have to go to the doctor for any reason, ask for a cholesterol test and and hemoglobin A1C test. Both very important. With cholesterol you want your total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VLDL, Triglycerides and a ratio of HDL:LDL.

Hemoglobin A1C is uber important as well. I think it's the most important lab test to be ran in any situation other than an emergency. So, if you're getting stuck for blood anyways, ask your doctors for these two tests and report back here promptly :)

my face gets red sometimes, usually when I assuredly have alcohol still leaving my system from a previous drinking session such as day drinking after going out the night before and I also get very congested can't breath through nose face throbs. Also all scars/cuts get red for some reason. It almost looks like hives but it's not raised or anything just blotchy. type of alcohol doesnt matter randomly happening on and off since I was 16.

Wow... That really does sound like a histamine response to the T. I've honestly never experienced anything like it or heard anything about it. Maybe has something to do with the grain? Gluten sensitivity or celiac? That's probably reaching quite a bit as I'm just guessing. Do you have any other sensitivities to anything with grain in it like breads or oatmeal?

not that I'm aware of. i dont go to the doctor unless i think im dying or I have an injury I feel should warrant pain pillz but my unscientific guess is I have a lack of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol but obv not sure since i don't even know what an enzyme is. I also don't understand its (to me) randomness.

If you've ever had the CT Scan blood dye injected into you that's a similar feeling.

Ya, I've had a CT and know the feeling.

You certainly are having histamine release, hence the redness (vasodilation). Do you itch with it as well. I did a quick search and came across this site and it sounds like what you're experiencing and you are correct, it sounds like you may lack the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme and this is what is causing everything. Interesting stuff.

"Adverse reactions induced by alcoholic drinks are common. Many normal individuals will experience nasal congestion and mild flushing of the skin within minutes of ingesting alcohol. Patients who suffer from Rosacea and Seborrheic dermatitis are more prone to facial flushing from alcohol. This is not an allergy, but related purely to the vasodilator (dilated blood vessels) effects of alcohol."
