CA economic contribution to the US GDP represents a surplus of about 4% (they are 15% of US GDP but only 11% of the population). That's a major benefit to all the other states. That doesn't even address the private sector analysis - people in CA make A LOT of money and if you believe in any amount of trickle down that's a good thing.

Surely there's some complex interconnectedness and other economics questions here (would CA make as much if it wasn't part of the US, is it foreign nationals making the money, etc.) but it cannot be denied that CA is an economic juggernaut. Why does that matter? Increased GDP for a nation, or its component parts, is (in most people's opinion) directly correlated with various basic quality of life metrics. Things like literacy rates, access to clean water, etc. are almost always higher as GDP is higher.

CA has got lots of problems, but I for one an happy they're on team USA. If we want to get rid of a player I nominate Mississippi. That place fucking sucks.
 
@Boner haven't looked into enough and probably good if every state was CA (especially MS sadly!) but there seems to be so many issues for those residents. Like stated have to look at numbers but IMO just guessing of course, it has to do with people like this governing the state.:dunno:

Yeah, they have problems. I think Tron's point (not speaking for him, please correct me if im wrong) was that those problems are disproportionately magnified by the media compared to the state's wonderful contributions to American culture and the economy.

My pops wouldn't step foot in the whole state b/c of his media consumption but he'd be missing out on some serious natural wonders because of a heroine epidemic in the tenderloin (let's be honest it was always a shit hole, or has been since I've been going to SF).

The current leadership stinks (worse than the Govenator for example) I think I agree. Though the Congress people don't control what happens in the state much. But it's also a massively diverse state, probably the most diverse in terms of economic and social interests that need balancing. It's a seriously tough place to govern.

Net-net it's still a top 5 state in the nation, no qualifiers.

And look no matter what I would have posted most hear would have taken his side anyway and no issues with that. I don't presume you to be one of them. And HONESTLY only thing that matters is that your wife is progressing nicely!!! :yes:

*Mr.Monkey in all actuality doesn't give a shit about my point or Boner elaborating said point because his media cocoon has already brainwashed him into California = scary place that needs to break off and float away into the Pacific Ocean.

Tons of problems in CA, politics included.

But honestly MrM, are politicians all you think about?

In your day to day life, your city and county and state, your neighbors and friends and family, the places you like to go... how often do you think about politics and politicians?

Every single state has strengths and weaknesses. Yet you cherry pick based on politics. If a red state had California's GDP, you'd be impressed, but because it's a blue state, you can't respect it?

The vast majority of people in California, just like everywhere else, are just normal people living their lives. You need to appreciate how ridiculous it is that you don't like a handful of politicians, so in turn lump an entire state of millions of people in with them, as if we are all a fucking hive mind or something.

yep and as was mentioned earlier about 6 million of them voted MAGA in 2020. it's a big area, lots of very red areas as well. it's not just LA. there must be something they like about living there to not help our their party by moving to a swing state with a GOP govornator.

And how many more thousands that didn't bother to vote for president since they know their vote won't matter in Cali? Odd indeed, to continue living in such a liberal cesspool!

I understand your point but it can be also said for the opposite. Like liberal TDS (TRUMP Derangement Syndrome) Dems in state like FLA that hate what's going on in their state.

That 6 million Republican Cali's that voted for TRUMP represented 34% of the total vote. In FLA 5.3M Dems and bigger 48% voted for Biden. Maybe their TDS Dems like something about their respective state too?

Maybe they also can assist their party by moving to states like Texas, NC, Ohio, Alaska, Ohio to guarantee getting to 270 again in November? :up

And of course get away from the meanest gov in our country!

That's not the same, MrM, because Florida is a swing state. Blue votes matter in Florida. Red votes do not matter in California.

Okay so on your terms let's take Texas. In 2020 5.3M Texans or 46% voted for Biden. Why they staying there with all those gun loving/toting people? Forget my opinion statement on that and lets move to facts.

The original point was, if California is the horrific hellscape the media makes it out to be, WHY do so many R's live there?

Your counterpoint doesn't prove anything, as I'm assuming you don't blindly hate Texas like you do California? Nor does anyone else here.
