My brain plays mundane versions of Sophie’s Choice constantly.

This morning I asked myself…

Would I rather be a vegan for the rest of my life for $100,000 a year or eat anything I wanted, and be sent the finest steaks from Peter Luger once a week for free?

Which way you going guys?

$100,000 a year with at most 30 years to live would be $3,000,000

let's say the steak is valued at $100, that's $5,200 per year, $156,000 in 30 years

plus the expected inflation, steaks more valuable, the $100k less valuable, that $100k will be about $50k in 30 years and those steaks around $10k

being a vegan I'd be probably have to be very selective of foods and maybe more healthier

but family, sex and eating are the three joys in life the saying goes and here you're giving up on one of them

but then I thought 'is eating really one of the joys in life?', I mean now a days food is entertainment, now a days food is a coping mechanism to emotional and psychical stress in life, but go back a couple hundred years ago or right now to countries with abject poverty and people didn't and don't have the same outlook of food being a joy, where food is and was just a hard necessity to acquire, this outlook we have now has been shaped by the current food industry in the west to levels that are almost vulgar in excess in my opinion without going full reno cool on this, the fact is we could benefit personally health wise and collectively environmental wise to restrict our consumption to more sane levels, maybe our outlook towards food would be different then, maybe these nutty vegans have done some introspective and aren't just all nutty, last year I lost 45 lbs by just basically stop eating, this year I gained 45 lbs by eating whatever, maybe I am emotionally confused but as it is right now though I'd choose the steak

I don't know who Sophie or Luger is but yeah nice morning mental exercise

I'd snap off on being a vegan rest of my life. Yeah that'd suck big time. But $100,000 per year is a comfortable livable wage on its own and could easily be supplemented with a chill part-time job or freelance gig.

This buys me so much time and alleviates so much stress. I can focus entirely on creative endeavors and enjoying my life now without worrying about how my bills get paid.

And honestly, there are plenty of solid vegan options, and the industry is always expanding. We'll probably have very passable impossible meats in the next 10 years or so.

No-brainer for me, Sophie can enjoy her steaks.

speaking of eating I went to a Wendy's next to a high school and it was full of students, but those teen boys look old, like 35 year old tired with a mortgage old, like been working out in the sun old, not 1 but a whole group of them their face just tired, don't know what's going on but seems fischy :assassin:

Food is made by nature, ie fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts etc.

What we have today are edible substances that do not occur in nature, ie ice cream, chocolate, pretzels, deep fried stuff and so on. These substances are engineered to be appealing to humans and provide pleasure and massive profits to the companies that make them.

Nobody gorges on a bowl of apples for pleasure or craves a boiled potato (without the extra ingredients).
Potato chips, pretzels, candy bars, ice cream? SUGAR! Yes sir, may I have another?

Humans crave these exciting edible substances that provide pleasure, ie chocolate.
With pleasure there is never enough so humans constantly want more and eat more.
This is essentially what addiction is.

It would be near impossible to become obese living off of what nature provides as is.
No one would get fat eating raw veggies and fruit, its just not possible.

It starts at a young age in the west, with cereal for kids, the stuff is pure poison. Children should not eat breakfast cereals, its very unhealthy.

As written I think I eat whatever I want. If you could snap your fingers and make me vegan, like I didn't have the knowledge of good tasting meat (hah) and I didn't have to live with the knowledge that I was "giving something up" for money then I'm in.
