macaroon stout

Macaroon Stout, a new variant for the 2024 Bourbon County release.

Aging: Aged for a full year in bourbon barrels.

Additives: Cocoa nibs, sweet candied ginger, and toasted coconut are added after barrel aging to evoke the flavors of coconut macaroons.

Flavor Profile: Toasted coconut, dark chocolate, and a hint of sweet ginger. The base stout provides chocolate and coffee notes from the malt, with hints of banana, licorice, and sugar from fermentation.

ABV: 14.7%.

Cougar Review: 8.5/10

I like this one on par with the Cola Bourbon Stout which I really enjoy. As the beer warms you really get that chocolate nib profile right up front, then the coconut, and the ginger is there but more subdued. IMO the banana and licorice flavor profiles are probably present but not in the nose. I suggest letting the beer warms for about 10 minutes then pouring. I was more satisfied with the beer at a slightly warmer temperature than right out of the fridge.

Augustiner Helles
"Lager Bier Hell" officially

5.2% ABV

Every time I take the first sip of an Augustiner I think to myself "holy shit this is good." To keep it simple, it tastes and smells like fresh homemade bread dough in the best way imaginable.

Clear, straw colored body. Thin white head maintains as it forms. Leaves behind thin lacing webs on the glass. Augustiner makes the perfect Pilsner, and I have to say after finally finding this, also the perfect lager. It's probably a little on the light side for a lager, but the crispness and flavor profile can't be beat. I even get the faintest hints of citrus zest. Real soft as it finishes which is a stark contrast to the clean crispness you get to begin.

Cougar Rating: 9.6/10
