I'm slightly wide, all my AEs are Es. They are available as wide as EEE.
Look at AE's shoebank.com for factory seconds in EEE width, a bunch of them should be available for $200 or less.
AE is the low-end of the high-end - lower than that and you're into fashion-brand territory, which is way overpriced. These companies know that the majority of people do not want to spend more than $100-$200 on shoes so they build to a price instead of a quality standard.
I would not recommend stuff like Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy.
My little bro schooled me on that stuff before my wedding. I have seen the light.
