My parents didn't believe in "secular" music (Bread probably understands) so I had to hide it. Unfortunately I hid it under my pillow (wasn't very smart at 9 years old) and my mother found it. I told her it wasn't mine, she said I had to return it so I did, then I borrowed:

Michael Jackson Thriller Record

went in halfsies with my sister. I think I was in first grade and she bilked me out of my birthday money, so she could listen to it


I liked to listen to the "the girl is mine" song with paul mccartney, but the record player was in her room. and I wasn't good at being able to find the different songs on the record.
 
As best as I can remember, the first records I bought were pop compilations by K-Tel. I remember the names Fantastic and Sound Explosion.

Upon a little investigation I found this. It was from 1973:
