That has no bearing on the number of goals scored. Cunt.

this

plommer is a cunt but I do share his hatred of shootouts

fukkin random way to decide a game

ties are better

crosby is crazy good but he won't break most of gretzky's records because the game has changed. If gretzky played today he wouldn't be averaging close to 3 points a game and the oilers sure as hell wouldn't be scoring 5 a game or whatever.

things change in sports......... its stevek-ish evolution

for instance in baseball they recognize "modern" records for pitchers, for things like shut outs and complete games.

maybe there should be Modern records (after 1995 or somthing) for scoring in the NHL

we are in the post modern era here.....

its not like Mario and Wayne had their super talented "crews" in their days.....

we gotta account for Messier's and Coffey's ect....

Sid and Ovechkin run with some talented crews, but all things considered. I don't think they are THAT talented

the talent pool is diluted since 1988

Gretzky and Lemieux dominated the rest of the league by a wider margin than Crosby and Ovechkin today. They looked like ninjas on ice, especially Lemieux.

Even I knew who Gretzky and Lemieux were back then and I didn't watch my first nhl game well into the 2000s.

They are just in another level like Maradona and Pele, Malcolm Marshall and Sachin Tendulkar, Jordan, Ayrton Senna etc

I think the fact that the great one saw his scoring affected as well proves it's more about the game changing than anything else.

gretzky played the last ten seasons of his career or so without a streak of over 25

he had those few ridiculous seasons where scoring was through the roof, and then his goals and assists dipped. still great, but not like what they were in that rare mid-'80s period. He had three straight seasons of over 200 points, a season of 183, and he never again even got to 169, averaging maybe 125 a season for the rest of his career.
