I love my sister and plan to do everything I can for her and her upcoming baby - but I just got the invite to the baby shower.

Sunday Sept. 26 at 1 pm

No, no, no. One of the last Sundays of my beloved reg season baseball PLUS week 3 NFL which is when I start betting it. It should be one of the most busy, fun, exhilerating days of the year for me. I can picture it. I can feel it. I got bets, I got pools. Lines being tracked, triggers being pulled, results coming in. I'm here at my computers with the TV on behind me, jumping back and forth as the action dictates. Probably order in Swiss Chalet for dinner in time for the end of the 4 o'clock games. Then right back to the computers for the late action. 12 hour day.

Man I love that day. Can you tell?

Trade it in for a baby shower?

No I must get out of this. And to just say I'm working I don't think will quite cut it in this situation.

What do I do?

Place the bets before you go to the baby shower. Trust me the outcome of the games is not going to be affected whether you watch the games live on TV or not.

That so doesn't work for the way I do things. Particularly with baseball, it is essential that I be assessing lines in the last 15 minutes before first pitch. On a Sunday of course that is all through the afternoon. It is a bit less important with football but still needed for optimum results.

Muddaaaay! This sounds like a fib, which is not surprising as we all know that once a person starts lying the natural progress is to continue with deception.

Sir, I remember your first posted lie as if it were yesterday.

No, god no. 65% ??? Nooooo.

As for your earlier question about routinely posting picks, I don't do that. I'll chime in on capping discussions now and then but as far as maintaining season-long pick threads, it doesn't work for me. There are about 10 reasons. The topic used to come up often enough that I wrote and saved and essay about it. It is probably around here somewhere.

If anyone is interested I could probably find that old essay - or at least recreate it. I don't know if it is an interesting discussion topic or not.

But the bottom line is I just don't do much of it.

Muddy, why the shock over 65%? Granted over the course of a full year in every sport it would be phenomenal but for a single season like college football or something is it really that hard to believe?

This is why I ask Muddy

2008 College Football 56-29-1 (+1710)
2009 College Football 66-42 (+$585)

I try to make it a habit, as much as humanly possible, to not do things that I do not want to do. If it hurts someone's feelings, then so be it. My time is valuable.

But I understand that doesn't work for everybody. I'd like it if you were here talking some football with me online for Week 3.

It's amazing how alike we think.

:herman:

Wal,

When a recreational better plays a teaser or parlay, they are usually worse off in terms of expected value than if they had just played the straight wagers. For that reason, you could call them sucker bets, although I really think that most recreational betters are going to lose whatever they can afford to in the long-run, and so I think they should make whatever bets are the most fun.

Teasers and parlays can provide a pro with higher EV and ways to circumvent limits. There really aren't many sportsbook offerings that can't be taken advantage of in certain situations. I'm a little surprised you've never heard of Wong teasers. There is a lot written about them.

As for NCAA vs NFL, with just a couple exceptions, I haven't really touched football, I'm usually ready for a long break after baseball. It's my understanding that sides/totals are tougher to beat in the NFL than NCAA, and that would make sense. I would expect that there are a lot more opportunities with derivatives and props in the NFL, though.

Oh, and about the 65%, the question wasn't "do you ever think you'll get really lucky and hit 65% for a season?" A long term expectation of hitting 65% at -110 is pretty outlandish.

No, god no. 65% ??? Nooooo.
More fukking lies!

Muddaaaaay! You never should have started with that first lie, pal. Do you see whats happening now? You can't stop.

I will be evaluating your future posts with much skepticism (and I hope the others here do too) as the lying appears to be all to easy for you.

Exactly. I'm out. It's decided. The only question is the excuse I use.

Call in sick is a possibility although I hope for something more elegant.

I haven't read farther than this but I will throw my two cents in.

Baby and bridal showers are for women. You can offer to possibly help set-up the night before, but tell them that you already have plans for the day of. Don't feel guilty, again those types of gatherings are for women only.
