never understood the point of hybrids. The gas use difference is pretty small. My v6 does 30 miles per gallon.
Until the hybrids can do 70 mpg I don't think it's worth it.

I would hold out for a flying car.

Your correct, well with everything up to the flying car, the hybrids don't offer enough of a mileage benefit yet, why, because the auto companies are using a transmission coupled to a electric motor and the gas engine. This adds so much complexity to the system, that they are bound to have problems. If they would just convert all of the engines power over to electric and have a direct drive off of a electric motor, the regenerative braking would be more efficient, and the gas engine could be tuned to produce the maximum amount of electricity at all times because it would be a complementary system to the primary electric system. I refuse to buy a hybrid or electric until they do this. Oh, and by the way, it would be easier to service because the regenerative braking system would be the primary way of braking so the servicing of brake pads would be less often, and forget about a transmission. Electric motors are about the only thing that needs rebuilding every once in a while, and they are relatively cheap.

As for the flying car, that won't happen even for your grandkids. I really think that within 25 years, we will all have cars that drive themselves however. You just get in pop a beer and tell it where you want to go.

Wrong.
