This just in: Blues sign Wade Redden to one-year contract

Days after being waived and bought out by the New York Rangers, defenseman Wade Redden has found a new home in the National Hockey League.

Redden agreed to a deal Friday with the St. Louis Blues, a one-year, $800,000 contract.

"Wade is a solid two-way defenseman," general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement released by the team. "We believe his experience will complement and add stability to our defensive core."

Redden is scheduled to arrive in St. Louis this weekend and undergo a physical on Sunday.

Redden, 35, has spent the past two seasons with the Connecticut Whale, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate. Last season, he posted four goals and 20 points in 49 games.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Redden is a veteran of 13 NHL seasons including 11 years in Ottawa and, most recently, two with the Rangers (2008-2010). Overall, Redden has appeared in 994 NHL games totaling 106 goals, 450 points and 654 penalty minutes. The Lloydminster, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by the New York Islanders with the No. 2 pick in the 1995 NHL Draft.

I was wondering that too. Did any players have problems getting out of their contracts with the league they were in, like Wilson Chandler in China last year?

KHL and NHL have a deal. A couple of the players stuck around long enough to play in the KHL All-Star game but are back now. I just realized that Jaromir Jagr is now a Dallas Star.

Alexei Kovalev signs one year deal with the Panthers!!

Welcome back to the NHL buddy!!!

the Panthers just need to sign Bobby Lang, Martin Straka, Jan Hrdina, Morozov, Darius Kasparitis and they'll have a formidable team!
