I'm an asshole no doubt. While it sometimes bothers me when I forget what I am doing and am rude to someone that doesn't deserve it I have no problem being a completely over the top dick head to someone I have no use for such as yourself.

You often, yes often pop up and question someone but feel above answering yourself. You have a knack for throwing something out there without any explanation, foundation or support and leaving it at that. It's like you are convinced that you either have or should have some sort of respect. Maybe you do Daft but not with me. You sir are nothing more than a self absorbed piece of shit in my mind. Right or wrong that's the way it is and if you expect anything remotely respectful out of me towards you then add delusional to the rest of what I think of you.

Arrogance is one character trait that pushes my buttons to a point of losing control and you have it in spades.

I disagree that ERA is a worthless measure of a pitcher. If you want to say it is overvalued by some cappers, I might buy that, but to say it is purely luck - or even mostly luck - is taking the devil's advocate position too far.

There are always going to be anomalies like Greinke's current year - there are always going to be ups and downs - but in the big picture ERA is much more a result of how a pitcher pitches than luck.

I"m with Muddy..... I may be flawed but its not WORTHLESS

when you look at the top pitchers in the ERA category at the end of a year, they are gonna be GOOD pitchers. not just LUCKY pitchers.

yes you will have outliers and exceptions to the rule. but by and large even though I use things like FIP, Babip, k/bb, k/9 ect. I don't ignore ERA completely.

good era is still HIGHLY correlated with a good pitcher and vice versa in a large sample size
 
The plays today don't feel forced but at the same time they aren't posted without some concerns either. I really wanted to play some totals today but after going through all the dialog with FIP and ERA's and whatnot it made me question. Doubt is a terrible thing, appreciate that.

I have a question. I have seen here and elsewhere now some classify ERA's as past performance data for future predictions. Isn't that true of any statistic used to cap a game? I mean seriously every stat or compiled data is based on previous performances.

Maybe I am wrong but it feels like many people justify their tools. An argument can be made for anything someone is proficient in using and an exact argument can be made to discredit something else. I say if it works based on the application of the person using it don't knock them or it.
 
Wally, not this again! All I said was Polo helped me with the FIP thing and in my case I still use ERAs to determine who I will play along with the FIPs! Of course if a guy has 6.00 ERA and a FIP of 3.00 no matter how you slice it his team probably is losing more than winning! Just possibly the guy isn't really as bad as his ERA would suggest and possible improvement down the road!

Monkey the ERA thing isn't a battle. To me it is just a preference and nothing more. Maybe FIP or something else has a more decided edge as an indicator for P-Roid and others than ERA's but some might be more comfortable with what they can relate to. It's no argument and really not even being hardheaded, it's just all about what an individual can derive from what they choose to use.
