Canada/China uranium agreement good for Saskatchewan

A new uranium agreement between Canada and China could spell significant economic benefits for Saskatchewan.

The deal signed on February 9 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper will allow China to purchase yellowcake uranium from Canada, the sale of which was prohibited up until now.

The increased exports that will be generated as a result of the deal is positive news for Saskathewan’s uranium mining industry. Saskatoon-based Cameco Corporation has noted that this allows the company to move ahead with supply agreements signed in 2010, which could be worth upwards of $3 billion.
