Winds over 100 km/h ravage Saskatoon, highways a mess

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saska...-h-ravage-saskatoon-highways-a-mess-1.2497586

Strong winds with gusts reaching 107 km/h, have caused severe damage in Saskatoon while many highways have become treacherous due to poor visibility and ice.
On Wednesday morning just outside of Saskatoon, on Highway 5 and Highway 41, a semi-trailer was seen blown over onto its side. It was the first of many reports of highway disruptions due to wind and ice.
The strong winds combined with milder temperatures have made highway travel dicey in several parts of the province.
On Wednesday evening, RCMP said people should avoid Highway 3, between Tisdale and Star City due to poor visibility and icy roads. There were several vehicles in the ditch, including a semi, as of 6 p.m.
Also, Swift Current rural RCMP said early Wednesday evening that Highway 4 North of Swift Current had been closed down. Two semi trailers are blocking the road. It will likely be closed until about 1 a.m. Thursday or so.
The Highway Hotline issued an advisory for roads around Leader and Tisdale as well, noting reduced visibility due to blowing snow and icy and slippery sections.
Around 9:30 p.m., RCMP from Broadview, east of Regina, said the Trans-Canada Highway in their area was in very poor condition due to extreme winds, blowing snow and an icy road surface. Travel was not recommended on Highway 1 between Broadview and Whitewood. In some spots, RCMP said, visibility was down to zero.
[h=2]Power disruptions in Saskatoon[/h] In Saskatoon, many people were without power for part of the day Wednesday and some traffic signals were also down.
Around 2 p.m. CST firefighters were called to a downtown office building after a 7th floor window was blown out. An area around 410 - 22nd Street East was blocked off and would remain so until winds died down.
At the time, the fire department said the sustained wind speed was 70 km/h with gusts to 107 km/h.
City crews have also been dealing with downed trees, while residents have been tending to loss of roof shingles.

It was South Dakota but since this was drawn up they have outsourced all outsourcable SD jobs to India so it has slipped to #894,674

In a heartbreaking twist to a tragic story, it has been confirmed that the Saskatchewan woman killed by a school bus Monday had two children aboard the bus when the crash happened.

Monica Domes, 40, of the Biggar district, died when the bus struck a pickup truck and cattle trailer that were parked on the side of a highway.

Three children and the bus driver were injured.

"It's just a very shocking thing to have happened," close family friend Sharon Gamble told CBC News. "We definitely uphold the family in prayer because that is about the only thing that is sustaining right now."

The RCMP have confirmed that two of the three children on board the bus were related to Domes.

Nova Scotia man missing in Saskatoon!

Police in Saskatoon are investigating the disappearance of a Nova Scotia man who was last seen at his bachelor party on Saturday -- just two weeks before his wedding date.

Gregory “Myles” MacIntosh, 28, who is supposed to get married on Feb. 15, was last seen outside Outlaws Country Rock Bar, celebrating with his friends. He was reported missing just after midnight on Feb. 2.

Family members say MacIntosh called a friend while he was walking away from the bar, but that he hasn’t been in touch with anyone since.

Meanwhile, rescue crews have suspended the search for a person who may have fallen into the South Saskatchewan River.

Crews found footprints leading to the edge of the water, but divers haven’t been able to go into the water for safety reasons.

MacIntosh’s sister says she worries that the person who went into the water may be Gregory, but police have not been able to find evidence that would link the two cases together.

MacIntosh is described to be six-feet tall and 200 pounds, with light curly brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a silver lip ring. He was last seen wearing a blue suede suit jacket, a white t-shirt, light blue jeans and black dress shoes.

Saskatoon police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
