Irregardless of it's etymology, it has long been a word, and it facilitates communication more than it confuses.
It's an illogical word that imposed itself through usage.
Irregardless is a word and has been for over 100 years. Do people not understand what it means? I choose use the word "regardless" instead, but you go right ahead and use whatever vocabulary you want. It bothers me when people care about grammar and vocabulary short of not being able to understand what another person is communicating, the purpose of language.
I feel the same way about the non-literal use of literally.
