Random thoughts

What I am suddenly experiencing grave doubts about - regarding my music project - is the overall integrity. There are some songs that are very serious and dark - and there are songs which are more like winking, humorous social commentary - and I just wonder how jarring the transitions are.

It is all fairly abstract and I think that helps.

But I just don't know.

Same could be said of the actual musical styles. Some songs have an almost raunchy electric guitar foundation - some are clean and acoustic with an old-timey feel - and there are orchestral bits with lots of strings and brass and whatnot.

Some songs are layered and big in sound while some are quite spare and minimalist. Do they fit together? I don't know.

Experiencing some doubts here is what I'm saying.

Yeah the big question is always, am I doing this for myself or am I trying to make something that might have commercial potential?

As for doing it for myself, it is all good. My doubts come up when I think about the latter.

I've got some songs that would be good singles I think. Unfortunately they come up towards the end. For commercial purposes, it might be good to kick off with one but as for the larger story I want to convey, it would make no sense.

Anyway, nothing to do now but keep hammering at it.

Lets see Muddy, off the top of my head, it seems to me that a lot of artists sing a variety of music on their records. Some sing mostly love songs, but may throw a few fun pumped up songs in there, some sing in a very melancholy tune, and then there might be a random track in there or two that are just silly and make no sense. In my opinion though, that is what makes a record or band great, is the ability to sing/write/play different kinds of music.
