Random thoughts

It was a first for me.

I noticed a thing - a device - had suddenly appeared at the little mall where my grocery store is. It sprang up in the middle of a storefront sidewalk looking, as much as anything, like the air machine at the gas station. That was my first impression. It's a little upright thingy with a hose/nozzle attached.

Anyway, I first noticed it a week ago and I just went in for a closer look --> it is a charger for electric cars. And I noticed that the parking spot in front of it has a logo to represent cars that need to be plugged in.

It is not a prime spot - which is good really. Unlike disabled people and expectant mothers, there is no real call for it to be right at the front door. And it is not. It is kinda off in the wings, over there.

Anyway there it is. How bout that!

I guess that is the limitation. I would imagine if you actually studied it, you would find that was good enough for a very high percentage of driving. The vast majority of jaunts I go on are less than 80 miles. 40 miles starts getting more iffy, although it still covers most (in my case).

I don't know about the traffic jam factor.

Anyway, it can only help if these chargers start popping up in more and more places.

The new Chevy Volt will only cover about 60kms in electric-only mode, BUT then you get an extra 400-500kms of range when the gas-powered thingie that charges the battery kicks in.

That car is amazing btw. Almost completely silent even when the gas engine kicks in.

Autoshare offers one to its members, I've driven it twice so far. I love it.

Matty, are you then running on gas only?

Perfect car for anyone wanting to sneak out of the house without getting noticed.
