Random thoughts

That just sounds painful.

Seriously though who in their right mind would hire Rex Ryan, yes I know he still has a job. No coach is more of an attention whore and all this he said she said BS with non factor come game time Tivo as comical as it was, is on Rex. I look at that situation and I just am like what the fok is that. The fok. Still love that thing about his foot fetish though. Well played Rex.

Mark Twain on Jane Austen (1898)

“I haven’t any right to criticize books, and I don’t do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can’t conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin-bone.”

If only these people had access to internet forums back then. Oh man.

Has anyone notice since Muddy made that thread about how everyone uses the quote function too much, everyone has been using it less?

I noticed.

Definitely not everyone but no doubt the overall use of unnecessary quotes was reduced a noticeable amount. It was not a night-and-day situation but there was a nice little effect. At times there were some wonderful crisp, flowing conversations like I had forgotten were possible. Very enjoyable to me.

Witty, thoughtful, back-and-forth uninterrupted by speedbumps and spam. :pepe:

Since then things have slowly reverted - somewhat - but it remains at a better level than when I made the thread.

My expectations were low and they have been exceeded.

You have a strange definition of spam Mudballs.

Do I? Could be, could be. Sometimes I lose track of my own idioms. I use spam in a generic way to mean any useless blob of stuff that someone plopped down that serves no purpose and just takes up space. It would generally refer to something in electronic media although my idiomatic use is ever expanding.

it's muddy's world we just post in it

That's funny - some people did seem to take the thing about the overuse of quotes that way. Not everyone of course but there were some reactions ranging from a call to action to kinda shook up. I felt like I was posting a random opinion among ten zillion opinions I see posted every day but some people reacted like mine represented an official edict.

Kind of flattering I guess - and I was pleased enough with the upshot - but like Spiderman I must remain aware that with great power comes great responsibility.
