The Nanaimo bar is a dessert of Canadian origin popular across North America. The Nanaimo bar is a bar cookie which requires no baking, and is named after the West-Coast city of Nanaimo, British Columbia. It consists of a wafer crumb-based layer, topped by a layer of light vanilla or custard flavoured butter icing, which is covered in chocolate made from melted chocolate squares.

Define hunk.

Nanaimo, that sounds native American.

Hunk. Well lemme see, if the whole thing of cheese is 500 grams, then I guess tonight's hunk for that one meal would have been, oh, say, 56 grams.

Nanaimo is a city in British Columbia. I would not be surprised at all if the name has native roots. Lots of native stuff going on out there (although of course it would be native Canadian, not American.)

I just had a quick look and yes, it is of native origin although in a rather roundabout way (it is an adaptation of . . . wait for it . . . Snuneymuxw.)

Further tidbits. Nanaimo bars are semi-officially "Canada's Favorite Confection." And the city of Nanaimo has been dubbed the "Bathtub Racing Capital of the World."
