Random thoughts

I don't quite remember Raging Bull, but in Casino, De Niro's character is just inept with women. He picks Ginger cause he's attracted to her and she lets herself "be picked" cause he has money. It doesn't have to be more complicated than that. She's a willing trophy wife.

This shit happens in real life all the time.

Ginger's motivation for being with Sam in Casino could not be more clear and sensible. I found Sam's behavior contradictory to his character. I mean, I could spin it to make sense but I could spin anything.

The point being, I would like not to have to spin or rationalize anything. I would like to be shown these things. That is not Marty's strength IMO. I love Marty and he has many strengths but definitely not that.

Re Casino: even less sensible was Ginger's behavior towards the James Woods character.

Muddy, was the Daily Queen Blizzard as spectacular as you thought it would be? Was painting a lot yesterday (and again today) and during paint breaks your DQB post had me yumming for some ice cream! Had paint all over my body so couldn't feed my urge!

I have a new mantra.

We are not smart.

I use it whenever I do something strikingly stupid. I say it to myself, out loud but quietly.

We are not smart.

It comes up often. I want to say surprisingly often but maybe the frequency of me doing stupid things is not surprising to anyone. Anyway I say it multiple times every day.

It comes from an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Enterprise encounters this spacefaring race, and they seem quaintly dopey at first. They are like a childrace and no one can even understand how they achieved space travel - but then they abduct Geordie Laforge and they keep demanding technology in exchange for not hurting him. Turns out that kind of extortion is the basis for all technological progress of their whole society.

Every time they get some new thing, they say, "We are strong!" Or, "We are smart!"

Of course in the end, Picard and the gang turn the tables on them and they are left dejected, saying, "We are not smart."

Lo and behold, it was rather easy to find supporting materials for this on the web. The alien race is called the Pakleds. This is what they look like:

And that is my new mantra. Like the Pakleds.

We are not smart.

I went to the grocery store this afternoon. I tend to go twice a week and in between times, I keep a running list of groceries required.

What I don't put on the list is bananas. I always need bananas. I eat a banana basically every day and I never buy more than 3 or 4 bananas at a time - due to the obvious ripeness issues - ipso facto: if I am making my half-weekly trip to Loblaws, I need bananas. My feeling is it goes without saying and therefore does not need to be written on the grocery list.

Today, I forgot to buy bananas. Again.

We are not smart.

So what about this show Shameless? Are we liking it?

I had it recommended to me awhile back and I just recently started to catch a few episodes. I dunno. Does it want to be a comedy? Does it want to be a drama? Is it trying to be zany? Is it trying to have heart?

Seems like it's trying very hard for something but I dunno.

It's on tonight but I don't know if I can be bothered.

it seems really fucking retarded to fire all the reps who were handling sbet's payout disputes before taking care of the payout disputes unless you were just gonna fuck around until you got an influx of football money.

what a fucking disaster this is going to be.
