Last night I dreamt that I was showing up for the first day of work at a new office job and I was wearing knitted pants and a sweater that my mother made. They were matching pants and sweater, white with black horizontal stripes at uneven intervals.

I was acutely aware that my attire was unconventional to say the least however I had two main thoughts:

1) I love my mom and her handicrafts are awesome and anyone who can't see that is not worth my time.

2) I am going to do such a great job that it doesn't matter how I look. They are lucky to have me.



Interesting. I find that dreams often provide insight into what is going on in my waking life and psyche. Like I'll have a dream where I'm scared of being busted, and I will find on reflection that in real life I am being secretive or sneaky about something in an unhealthy way. Or I'll dream about being unprepared and there will be real world parallels and worries.

Apparently I am currently brimming with defiance and whatnot.

I did not know that.

Very probably.

Sometimes dreamscapes are abstract and mysterious but sometimes there is an obvious direct link to waking experience. That thread yesterday had me remembering office jobs and voila, there it was in my dream.

There was another part of the dream where I was looking through someone's desk and found a big stapler that I thought was really great. That was probably borne out of a memory of talking to Bill Dozer about the movie Office Space and the Stephen Root character's fixation on his red stapler. I can't remember what it was exactly, but something yesterday reminded me of that conversation.
