Random thoughts

I learned something this summer.

I have lived in my current apartment for 10 years and, during the warm months, I have always gotten a lot of big ugly spiders that come out at night on my balcony. I don't like spiders. I can handle the little whispy ones but the big bulbous ones give me the heeby jeebies. But I always figured it was an impossible problem. It's outdoors - yer gonna get spiders.

I kinda figgered if you killed one, another would come along to take its place. So I did nothing and just accepted it and lived with the creepiness.

What I learned this summer though is that they do not get replaced immediately. In fact after killing a bunch of them (about 6) at the start of spider season, there have only been maybe 2 that have come along in months.

So the lesson for today is, if you kill a lot of spiders, there will be less spiders.

Yep we've got a few skeeters. I haven't noticed any difference in the skeeter population since I killed the spiders. Maybe that is a short-sighted way of looking at things, like someone who denies global warming because they were still wearing the same coat last winter as the winter before.

I don't know. They give me the willies and I am trying to deal with it. I don't mean to fuck up the icecaps.
