Well I'll be damned.

That doesn't even sound right though. Obviously I remember him being a great hitter. I think he may even have hit .400 over a 1 year period at one point (but it was from mid-season to mid-season so it didn't go in the books.) But I don't remember him having a season that flirted that closely with .400 a la George Brett's .390 or Rod Carew's .388.

Was it a year where he didn't have enough AB's to qualify?

Yes, it was the strike year.

In 1994 Gwynn batted .394, the highest batting average in the National League since Bill Terry hit .401 in 1930 and the highest in the majors since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941. Had the season not been shortened by a strike, Gwynn would have had the chance to become the first batter to eclipse the magical .400 mark in more than 50 years; of course, several players have hit .400 for four months, only to fade. In the end, Gwynn fell three hits short of the .400 mark in the shortened season.

I had to look it up. It was Shoeless Joe Jackson.

That was odd. I was just gazing out my window on the street and this guy walked by. Odd thing was, he was walking with a French accent. I hadn't realized you could walk with an accent until I saw him. But there was no doubt about it: pronounced French accent in his gait.

He looked like he was ready to walk up the Eiffel Tower or some damn thing.

It was 102 degrees I was feeling kind of hot so I walked across the street for one of those Mexican frozen popsicles. Couldn't buy just one so I bought myself a box. When I come back the assistant she's standing in the parking lot. No hard feelings, do you want one of these? But she looks at me like I was speaking Chinese. The security man walks up he helps himself to one, coincidently Chinese and hot from standing in the sun.

Then he helps himself to another, he puts it in her hand but she looks at it like it was a piece of crap or a dead and dying bird she didn't understand. So I was just trying to be helpful when I said...

BABY, IT AIN'T GONNA SUCK ITSELF!
