I'm currently eating a disgusting cheese-covered bagel with more shitty sliced cheese inside. Somewhere out there is another Matt who picked up the bacon breakfast sandwich I had actually ordered.
Any feelings about google translate Matty? The English --> French function specifically?
Harmony and I use it regularly when we send "findings emails" to clients who seem to be primarily french. Someone told her today we should stop. She asked what they thought we should use and they said we should have truly bilingual people handle it (which is completely impractical and frankly ridiculous.)
I can imagine it is pretty bad at times tho. I would think it could be pretty funny but obviously this person was very non-sense-of-humor-having.
I use it daily. It's a genius tool for translators because it is based on actual translated documents. The most useful feature to me is the little bar that shows how frequently a French equivalent is used to translate a given English word.
But like any automated translation tool, it cannot translate complete sentences accurately. Not even close. It's better than anything that came before it but it's still way off.
Great tool for people who have a good grasp of the target language's subtleties and idiomatic expressions.
But no.
Machine translation is probably the ultimate computing challenge.
BTW Muddy, the best way to handle that is to send the English email, preceded by a quick note. This is only available in English for the moment, sorry.
Depending on your level of annoyance, you can leave out the sorry.
