Random thoughts

I wonder if that is correct english, saying, "I was in hospital."

I would always say, "I was in the/a hospital."

It just seems right to me that there would be some kind of article there - however I have heard it expressed without the article so many times - often by very credible people - that I wonder if I have got it wrong.

I consider myself well above average in my knowledge of english. I realize I do many grammatically/syntactically incorrect flourishes on the forum - but it is almost always knowingly and for some effect.

But that one - in hospital ----> maybe I got it wrong.

Well I could make a very long-winded case based on the formal rules of grammar that it should either be "in the hospital" - or else many other situations should be handled differently than they commonly are for consistency sake - but English is full of inexplicable random exceptions all over the place. So as much as we all love long-winded discussions of the formal rules of grammar, I believe I will just go with it.

Meanwhile today is the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Also my brother's birthday.

Coincidence? I don't see how it could be.

I'm going to attempt some sewing today. That doesn't happen every day.

One of the external pockets of the cargo pants I wear for work has started to peel down. If nothing is done about it, it will continue until it is dangling every which way. Well I have obtained a needle and thread and I am going to attempt to repair it.

Pray for me.

Well okay. I sort of assumed I would know how to do that but I don't at all.

Mission fail.

MOM!!!!

Sewing is the worst. In junior high we were required to take either home ec or shop class. In hindsight I think I should have taken shop. I remember we had to make a duffle bag. Attempting to sew those round pieces on either end was frustrating to no end. My mother, who was an excellent seamstress to my detriment (she made a lot of my early clothing) finally finished it for me I believe.

I feel for ya MC
