You are exactly wrong. Every one of them considers it a consolation prize and is only there because their primary goal ended in failure.

You are projecting your own feelings on it. You don't know Canadians and hockey.

They can call it a World Championships all they want but everyone knows it isn't. It's a challenge of the leftovers.

THIS.

Does anyone know that the U.S. finished third? Does anyone care?

I was just listening to an interview with an American dude who played for Sochi of the KHL this past season.

Says they stopped paying the players in December.

It was just like, say, I know they don't pay on exact days of the month like the NHL - it just kinda shows up when it shows up a couple times a month - but I haven't gotten anything for over a month.

If you have questions about what the players did - I have the same questions - but they weren't really answered in the interview so I dunno. That was just a little side topic and they didn't fully explore it. I didn't hear about any mass player walkouts so I guess it got sorted out somehow. :dunno:

Prolly not a healthy indication anyway.

:obviously:I guess Canadians act happy when they are sad.
Looks to me like they couldn't wait to get out there, including your leftover greatest player in the world.

fw, you are so silly pal.

1. I don't know who ranks what where

2. You couldn't very well say that your club team comes 2nd. And of course why would anyone want to say that to his club teammates.

3. Trying to disparage international competition =conceit. I know Americans like to pick their ass and pretend like it is most important, Canadians I didn't get the impression were quite like that :dunno:

Now you're being silly. It's a consolation prize - no one is saying they should be sad. Just that there is a long history of Canadian hockey teams underperforming in situations where it's not the ultimate prize up for grabs. Not saying that's a good thing. It's just the way it is. You might be surprised what a distant afterthought that tourney is up here.

On a side note: you surprise me. You are the guy I expect to be full of skepticism and cynicism. Yet a bunch of dopey pencil-pushers in suits decide to call a tournament the World Championships - a name which reeks of false spin and hype - and seems like you are right on board.

"Sweetly gullible" ---> not words I generally associate with reno cool.

every serious sport has a World Championship. And they should. I don't know if the organizers there are any dopier than nhl organizers. WC has been going on forever.
Canadians should be proud that so many people play and love hockey. Instead, you want to downplay the significance. why?
Sure there may be a few players that weren't available, but imo the level of play did not suffer (at least for Canadians)

Obviously no players left their team in the playoffs for "national pride" - that included Russian players. That tells you where it ranks. Now the Olympics are special, this is garbage. This is about as meaningful as that dumb WBC that MLB is trying to push off on the public.

yes it is. Because it is an international sport.

the players cannot leave their team. It's not a matter of choice. Crosby asked to play as soon as he could. Ovechkin got on a plane within hours. those are the two biggest names.

nit Matty? you guys are missing out if you're assuming this is 2nd rate hockey. Need Pucky to weigh in
